Genesis 36

Day 1

We ended Genesis 35, and now we are starting Genesis 36! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 36 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

Abraham and Sarah had Isaac. Isaac and Rebekah had two sons, Esau and Jacob! They were twins! Esau was born first and Jacob second, but Jacob received the birthright and their father’s blessing. We know that Jacob had 12 sons and 1 daughter and for this chapter we are going to learn about Esau’s family! Today let’s read Genesis 36:1 and color and find Esau on the family tree!

This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom). – Genesis 36:1 NIV

Day 3

Esau married 2 women who were from Canaan and he also married the daughter of Ishmael! Esau had three wives! Today let’s read Genesis 36:2-3 and color the coloring page!

Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite—also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. – Genesis 36:2-3 NIV

Day 4

When Esau was in Canaan he had sons! His wife Adah had one son Eliphaz, his wife Basemath had one son Reuel and his wife Oholibamah had three sons; Jeush, Jalam and Korah. Today let’s read Genesis 36:4-5 and count how many sons Esau had! 5!

Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. – Genesis 36:4-5 NIV

Day 5

Esau had lived in Canaan, but then he decided to move. He took his family, everyone who lived with him, his animals and all his things and moved! Today let’s read Genesis 36:6 and talk about moving. When you move, what do you take? Your family comes along, you take your pets and all your stuff! Everything but the house and the land it’s on! That’s what Esau did!

Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.. – Genesis 36:6 NIV

Day 6

We learned that Esau was moving! The reason he was moving was because he and his brother Jacob had too much stuff! They both had too much livestock to live off the land! You can have about 5 sheep on one acre of land, and each brother had hundreds if not thousand of sheep! That’s a lot of land needed to support them! Today let’s read Genesis 36:7 and grab 10 small objects to represent sheep and a piece of chalk. Draw a small circle outside and place the 5 “sheep” inside of it. Now show your Tiny Arrow that you have 10 “sheep” but you need more room! Then draw a bigger circle around the first one and place the rest of the sheep inside

Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. – Genesis 36:7 NIV

Day 7

Esau left Canaan and moved to the hill country of Seir! Today let’s read Genesis 36:8 and color the map!

So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. – Genesis 36:8 NIV
