Day 1
We ended Genesis 38, and now we are starting Genesis 39! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 39 to your Tiny Arrows!
Day 2
In the last chapter we talked about Judah and his family, and now we are going to go back to Joesph and what happened to him when he was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelites! He had been sold as a slave to a man named Potiphar! Today let’s read Genesis 39:1 and color the coloring page!
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. – Genesis 39:1 NIV
Day 3
Even though Joseph was a slave and did not want to be sold, God was with him! God helped Joseph to prosper in his new home so much that his master favored him! Today let’s read Genesis 39:2-4 and talk with your Tiny Arrows about the ways Joseph could have been successful in his new home! Maybe if Joseph helped with planting and harvesting there was a lot more good healthy plants! Maybe if Joseph repaired things around the house they were better than new! Then tell your Tiny Arrow a time that the Lord was with you!
The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. – Genesis 39:2-4 NIV
Day 4
Joseph had success in everything he did because the Lord was with him! So his master Potiphar put him in charge of everything! Today let’s read Genesis 39:4 and talk to your Tiny Arrow if they were to be in charge of doing everything in your house, what they would have to do!
Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. – Genesis 39:4 NIV
Day 5
Because Joseph was in charge of everything Potiphar had, everything was blessed! Today let’s read Genesis 39:5 and circle everything that the Lord would have blessed!
From the time he put him in the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. – Genesis 39:5 NIV
Day 6
Joseph was in charge of everything his master Potiphar had! Potiphar only had to worry about the food he ate! Today let’s read Genesis 39:6 and talk to your Tiny Arrows about chores! Ask them if they had no chores, like putting away their toys or helping around the house, if all they had to do was worry about what they wanted for breakfast, lunch and dinner, what would they choose? What would they want for breakfast, lunch and dinner then grab a piece of paper and help them to write it down like a menu and draw pictures of the food!
So Potiphar left everything he had in Jospeh’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. – Genesis 39:6 NIV
Day 7
Joesph was prosperous in all he did and he was well-built and handsome! Today let’s read Genesis 39:7 and color Joseph in the coloring page!
Now Joesph was well-built and handsome, – Genesis 39:7 NIV
Day 8
Joseph was handsome and blessed! His masters wife wanted to spend time with Joseph, but Joseph knew that is was not what he was suppose to do! He was in charge and he needed to do things right! He needed to focus on what he was suppose to do. Today let’s read Genesis 39:7-8 and talk about responsibility, you can even make it fun by playing something like shopkeepers where they are the owner of the store. Not only should they make sure that they are taking care of everything in the store, but focusing on what they are suppose to do! For example they can help you “pack up” groceries, making sure they are doing their best and focusing!
and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.” – Genesis 39:7-8 NIV
Day 9
Joseph was responsible for everything in his masters house, but he was not responsible for his masters wife! She was under her husbands care! Today let’s read Genesis 39:9 and grab a doll to represent Potiphar’s wife. Explain that your Tiny Arrow will represent Joseph and the doll Potiphar’s wife, then go around a room and point to different things. After you point to something say that Joseph was responsible for such and such, but not Potiphar’s wife; then go around pointing out a few different things and showing them the doll of what Joseph was not responsible for.
“No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” – Genesis 39:9 NIV
Day 10
Joseph was staying focused on what he was suppose to be doing, even though Potiphar’s wife kept on asking for him to spend time with him! Today let’s read Genesis 39:10 and play a focus game! Grab something small for your Tiny Arrow to focus on and move it around in front of them, encouraging them to keep their eyes focused on it! Then try to distract them by adding another object to your other hand or wiggle or move your fingers in your other hand to represent Potiphar’s wife trying to distract Joseph!
And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. – Genesis 39:10 NIV
Day 11
We learned that Potiphar’s wife was trying to distract Joseph from his job! One day he went inside the house and all the other servants were outside! He was the only servant who was inside! Today let’s read Genesis 39:11 and open your door then have your Tiny Arrow go outside and tell them they are outside! Then have them hop inside the house and tell them they are inside! Then have them jump outside again and say all the servants were outside, and when they hop inside say Joseph was the only servant who was inside!
One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. – Genesis 39:11 NIV
Day 12
Joseph was the only servant in the house and Potiphar’s wife tried to keep Joseph inside by grabbing his cloak, but he ran outside with her still holding the cloak! She took his cloak off! Today let’s read Genesis 39:12 and grab your Tiny Arrows jacket! Help them to put their jacket on, then grab onto the arm of one side and have them wiggle out of it while you’re still holding it! Just like Joseph wiggled out of his cloak!
She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. – Genesis 39:12 NIV
Day 13
Potiphar’s wife was trying to make Joseph spend time with her, but Joseph ran out of the house and left his cloak behind! Potiphar’s wife was angry and then tried to get Joseph in trouble! She told everyone that Joseph was trying to be mean and that she was innocent! She lied! Today let’s read Genesis 39:13-15 and Zechariah 8:16. Then tell your Tiny Arrows that even though Potiphar’s wife lied, we should always speak the truth! Then encourage them to memorize Zechariah 8:16!
When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house. – Genesis 39:13-15 NIV
Speak the truth to each other. – Zechariah 8:16 NIV
Day 14
Potiphar’s wife wanted Joseph to spend time with her, but Joseph ran out of the house with her still holding his cloak! Then she lied about Joseph and kept his cloak with her! Today let’s read Genesis 39:16 and grab your Tiny Arrows jacket and keep it with you throughout the day. When they see you, remind them that Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s jacket with her until her husband came home!
She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. – Genesis 39:16 NIV
Day 15
Joseph was innocent, but Potiphar’s wife wanted to get him in trouble! She kept hold of Jospeh’s cloak all day and when her husband came home she told him the same lie that she told her servants! She even had the cloak to try and prove her story was true! It was false evidence! Today let’s read Genesis 39:17-18 and set up a scene to explain false evidence to your Tiny Arrows! You can grab a bowl and put your Tiny Arrows favorite cereal in it, or you can put some of your Tiny Arrows clothes in a place they are not meant to be! Then show them the cereal or clothes and explain that someone could come and blame your Tiny Arrow because their favorite cereal was out or their clothes were not put away. But then explain that even though the evidence points to the Tiny Arrow being the one that might have gotten cereal out or left their clothes out, it was someone else who did it! They cannot be blamed for something they did not do!
Then she told him the story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak and ran out of the house.” – Genesis 39:17-18 NIV
Day 16
We learned that Potiphar’s wife tried to get Joseph in trouble! She told her husband a lie and her husband got mad! Today let’s read Genesis 39:19 and ask your Tiny Arrow to make an angry face! Just like Potiphar!
When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. – Genesis 39:19 NIV
Day 17
Joseph got in trouble for something he did not do! He even got sent to prison! Today let’s read Genesis 39:20 and pretend to put your Tiny Arrow in prison! You can section off an area with pillows and have them stay there for a few minutes. Explain that Joseph was in prison and could not leave!
Jospeh’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. – Genesis 39:20 NIV
Day 18
Even though Joseph was in prison, the Lord was still with him! The man in charge of the prison favored him! Today let’s read Genesis 39:21 and color the coloring page.
But while Joseph was there in prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. – Genesis 39:21 NIV
Day 19
The man in charge of the prison put Joseph in charge of everything! Just like Potiphar had put Joseph in charge of everything! Today let’s read Genesis 39:22-23 and grab a few stuffed animals and surround them and your Tiny Arrow with a few pillows. Explain that the animals are in “prison” with your Tiny Arrow and your Tiny Arrow is in charge of them!
So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. – Genesis 39:22-23 NIV
Day 20
Today let’s reread Genesis 38 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
