Day 1
We ended Genesis 11, and now we are starting Genesis 12! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 12 to your Tiny Arrows!
Day 2
We learned that Abram, his father, his wife and his nephew all made it to Harran! But they were suppose to go to Canaan! Let’s take a look at the map from last Friday as we read Genesis 12:1. God told Abram to leave his country, his people and his fathers household. His country was Ur. Let’s write down “country” and put a star or check mark or circle by Ur since Abram left that place. He also left his people behind who lived in Ur. Let’s write down “people” and put a star or check mark or circle by Ur. Then let’s write down “father” and put a star or check mark or circle by Harran. He had to leave all three because the Lord told him to “Go!”
The Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” – Genesis 12:1 NIV
Day 3
God told Abram to go and leave some things behind, but He made him a promise too! He told Abram that he would be a nation, even though he had no children and did not know exactly where he would live. God said that the people who are kind to him would be blessed and those that are mean to him would be cursed. Then He told him that the world would be blessed because of Abram. But in order for any of this to happen Abram had to go! Today let’s read Genesis 12:2-3 and cut out the nation, blessing and curses present and the world. Then hide them in a different rooms or outside. Tell your Tiny Arrow that in order for Abram to receive what was promised he had to obey God. Then have your Tiny Arrow go and find them!
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:2-3 NIV
Day 4
Abram was told to leave and he did! He had already left his country and people, and now he was leaving his father behind in Harran. Abram was off to Canaan! Today let’s read Genesis 12:4-5 and glue the Abram on to Shechem (this map was from Genesis 11:31-32’s lesson). Keep this paper for the next few lessons.
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. – Genesis 12:4-5 NIV
Day 5
Abram traveled in Canaan to a place called Shechem. This is where a lot of Canaanites had alters to false gods. But Abram wanted to build an alter to the one true God! Today let’s read Genesis 12:6-7 and grab the coloring page from the previous lesson. Draw a small circle to represent an alter by Abram at Shechem on your map, then go outside and find a tree! Now search for rocks or sticks or bring building blocks from the house and build an alter to the Lord! Keep this paper for the next lesson!
Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said. “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an alter there to the Lord who had appeared to him. – Genesis 12:6-7 NIV
Day 6
In the previous lesson we learned that Abram found the nation that would be his and his children’s—Canaan! When he got there Abram built and alter to God at a big tree! After he built the alter he did not stay there but decided to travel. He traveled south again and built another alter! Today let’s read Genesis 12:8 and grab yesterday’s coloring page. Glue the last Abram between Bethel and Ai and draw another small circle to represent an alter!
From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an alter to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. – Genesis 12:8 NIV
Day 7
After Abram made his second alter he didn’t stay in the same place! He kept on traveling! He went to the Negev! The Negev is another name for south! Today let’s read Genesis 12:9 and using a compass find south! Then start walking in that direction and see what you find!
Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev. – Genesis 12:9 NIV
Day 8
We learned that Abram went south! After that there was a famine in the land! Oh no! That means the people were hungry! The food was not growing well anymore. Today let’s read Genesis 12:10 then think about where food comes from. Where are all the places we buy or get food? What would happen if they didn’t have food? How would we get food? Abram traveled to a different country, Egypt, in order to find food again! Where would you go if all the places around you did not have food? Then let’s pray and be thankful that there are so many food options available to us!
Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. – Genesis 12:10 NIV
Day 9
Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever told a lie so something wouldn’t happen that you didn’t want to happen? Like if you break something, and decide you don’t want to tell anyone you broke it so you don’t get punished. You tell the lie because you are fearful of what might happen. What if you ask someone else to lie for you? When Abram went to Egypt he did not want anything to happen to him because of his wife. So he asked Sarai to lie! Everything Sarai was told to say was the truth. She was his wife and she was his sister, but her being a wife was more important than her being his sister. And by telling people that she was not married was a lie! Today let’s read Genesis 12:11-13 and make sure that we don’t tell lies and we don’t have other tell lies for us too!
As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.” – Genesis 12:11-13 NIV
Day 10
We learned that Abram had Sarai tell a lie; telling everyone that she was not married when she was! Abram was spared but Sarai was taken away! This was like someone taking your favorite thing, but no one knew it belonged to you. Today let’s read Genesis 12:14-15 and ask your Tiny Arrow to show you their favorite toy then start to play with it. Then ask them whose it is and thank them for showing you the toy. Tell them that even though Abram loved Sarai he never told anyone in Egypt that she was his wife. He let Pharaoh take her and didn’t ask for her back. Oh no!
When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman. And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. – Genesis 12:14-15 NIV
Day 11
While Sarai lived with Pharaoh, Pharaoh gave Abram lots of gifts! Gifts that would make Abram rich! But do you think that replaced what he had given up? Today let’s read Genesis 12:16 and get the same toy from yesterday. Tell your Tiny Arrow you love the toy and would like to thank them for showing you it. Then give them smaller gifts in place of it. Now ask them if they would rather have all the small gifts or their favorite toy?
He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants and camels. – Genesis 12:16 NIV
Day 12
We learned that Abram went to Egypt because there was a famine and Abram asked his wife Sarai to lie and Pharaoh took her into his palace. But God did not want Sarai in Pharaoh’s palace. So God gave the people in the palace serious diseases! Today let’s read Genesis 12:17 then put some small dots on your body using a washable marker and holding the toy from last week, show your Tiny Arrow all the dots and tell them you don’t know where they came from or how you got them.
But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. – Genesis 12:17 NIV
Day 13
In the previous lesson we learned that the people in Pharaoh’s palace got diseases because Sarai was living there. When Pharaoh learned that Sarai was Abram’s wife he told Abram to take her and go! Today let’s read Genesis 12:18-19 then add more tiny dots on your body. Grab the toy from the previous lessons and give it back to your Tiny Arrow. Tell them the toy is theres, and because you took it, there are now dots all over your body. So you are giving it back to them.
So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” – Genesis 12:18-19 NIV
Day 14
Pharaoh gave Abram back his wife and sent him away! Today let’s read Genesis 12:20 and grab the same toy and all the small toys you gave your Tiny Arrow in the previous lessons. Then tell your Tiny Arrow all of the toys are there’s and put everything in a bag for them so they can take them!
Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had. – Genesis 12:20 NIV
Day 15
Today let’s reread Genesis 12 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
