Genesis 9

Day 1

We ended Genesis 8, and now we are starting Genesis 9! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 9 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

God blessed Noah and his sons and told them that they were in charge of the animals! Today let’s read Genesis 9:1-3 then ask your Tiny Arrow what sounds an animal might make. Then what sounds an animal might make if they wanted you to be afraid of them? A roar? A growl? Now ask them what sound they might make for an animal to be afraid of them?

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.” – Genesis 9:1-3 NIV

Day 3

There is blood in our bodies! The blood flows through vessels all over and is pumped by our heart! Today let’s read Genesis 9:4-6 as we color in the vessels of the body that has blood!

But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans will their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.” – Genesis 9:4-6 NIV

Day 4

Just like God told Adam to be fruitful and increase in number, He told Noah too! Remember Noah, his wife, three sons and their wives are now the only people on earth! Today let’s read Genesis 9:7 then color the coloring page and add more people on the earth!

As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.” – Genesis 9:7 NIV

Day 5

Ask your Tiny Arrows if they know what a covenant is. A covenant is like a promise! A promise is when we say we will do something and we do it, no matter what happens! If God makes a promise, He will keep it! Today let’s read Genesis 9:8-10. God is making a promise not only to the people, but the animals as well! Now ask your Tiny Arrow if they know what promise God will make!

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth.” – Genesis 9:8-10 NIV

Day 6

We learned that God is making a promise with the people and animals! Today let’s read Genesis 9:11 and find out what that promise is! He will never flood the earth again! There has been floods in city’s and country’s, but God has kept his promise and the whole earth has never flooded since the time of Noah! Amazing! Now let’s color the coloring page by coloring the left half all blue so it looks like it is flooded, then the right half with some blue so it looks like it only flooded in some places.

“I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” – Genesis 9:11 NIV

Day 7

Have you ever seen a rainbow in the sky? The first rainbow that was ever made was to show Noah that God would keep His promise! Today let’s read Genesis 9:12-13 and color the rainbow!

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” – Genesis 9:12-13 NIV

Day 8

Whenever God sees a rainbow in the clouds He will remember to never flood the earth again! Today let’s read Genesis 9:14-16 and make rainbows going in between the clouds!

Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all the living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” – Genesis 9:14-16 NIV

Day 9

Noah built a boat and filled it with his family, food and the animals. Then it rained for 40 days and flooded the entire world! After that, it was flooded for 150 days. Then God made a wind start to make the water go down, and it took about 185 days until the earth was dry! After Noah got to come out of the ark again, God promised He would never flood the earth again! He even made a rainbow as a sign of his promise! Today let’s read Genesis 9:17 and ask your Tiny Arrow to share with you the story of Noah and the beginning of the flood to the end!

So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” – Genesis 9:17 NIV

Day 10

In the beginning everyone came from Adam. After the flood, everyone came from Noah’s three sons. Today let’s read Genesis 9:18-19 and ask your Tiny Arrow if they know what scattered means. Then grab a handful of cereal, dried beans, beads or anything small and hard that you can easily grab. Put the handful in a large pile, and explain that it represents all the people living together in one place. Now pick up the pile and toss it so they all scatter and explain that now it represents the people being scattered. They all do not live by each other but have space in-between!

The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth. – Genesis 9:18-19 NIV

Day 11

There are two things God had asked Noah to do; build an ark and gather food. Now that he was not on the ark anymore, he could plant his own food again! Noah planted grapes to make wine! Today let’s read Genesus 9:20 and look at pictures of what a vineyard looks like.

Bonus: If you have any grapes on hand, try to juice them to make grape juice or let your Tiny Arrow squish them!

Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. – Genesis 9:20 NIV

Day 12

What happens to your body when you drink too much wine? You can’t think right! It affects your brain and then your whole body, slowing everything down. It’s almost like when you get very sleepy and all you want to do is sleep! So Noah went in his tent to sleep! Today let’s read Genesis 9:21 and pretend we are robots and move around very quickly. Then let’s pretend our batteries are getting low, and start moving very slow until we stop completely!

When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. – Genesis 9:21 NIV

Day 13

We learned that Noah planted a vineyard and made wine, but he got drunk! His son Ham found him and told on him! He did not honor his father! Today let’s read Genesis 9:22 and remember that we should honor our parents with our words and our actions and do something special for them today!

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. – Genesis 9:22 NIV

Day 14

Ham did not honor his father, but what about Noah’s other two sons? They honored their father! Not only did they cover their father, they didn’t look! Today let’s read Genesis 9:23 and grab a doll or toy and a tissue. Lay the toy down and have your Tiny Arrow try to put the tissue on top of the toy with their eyes closed.

But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked. – Genesis 9:23 NIV

Day 15

We learned that Ham did not honor his father but Shem and Japheth did. How do you think Noah would react to what happened? Oh my, Noah cursed his Ham and told him he would be the lowest of slaves! Today let’s read Genesis 9:24-25 and have our Tiny Arrows walk from one spot to another. Tell them that is like Shem and Japheth. Then have they walk it again, but this time they need to squat down with their knees pointing up so they are close to the ground. Now they are low like Ham!

When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him he said, “Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers!” – Genesis 9:24-25 NIV

Day 16

We learned that Noah cursed his son Ham and said he would be the lowest of slaves to his bothers. He said more too! Today read Genesis 9:26-27 and make some chains! Make a series of paper chains and say Ham was the slave of Shem and Japheth.

He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. May God extend Japheth’s territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.” – Genesis 9:26-27 NIV

Day 17

Today is the last day we talk about Noah! Noah lived a long time after the flood! He got to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren! Today let’s read Genesis 9:28-29 and color the graph! Then ask our Tiny Arrows what they remember about him.

After the flood Noah lived 350 years. Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died. – Genesis 9:28-29 NIV

Day 18

Today let’s reread Genesis 9 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
