Genesis 11

Day 1

We ended Genesis 10, and now we are starting Genesis 11! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 11 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

Once Noah’s sons started having children, a lot of the people stayed together and lived in the same area. They all spoke the same language and could talk to whoever they met! Today let’s read Genesis 11:1-2 and color the people on the coloring page!

Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. – Genesis 11:1-2 NIV

Day 3

When you build with stone, they can be lots of different shapes! When you make bricks, you can make all the shapes the same so they fit together nicely! Today let’s read Genesis 11:3 then color the coloring page and see some of the differences between using stones and bricks!

They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used bricks instead of stone, and tar for mortar. – Genesis 11:3 NIV

Day 4

The people wanted to build the highest tower! They wanted it to reach the clouds! Today let’s read Genesis 11:4 then build a city out of building blocks or draw one!

Then they said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” – Genesis 11:4 NIV

Day 5

Right now you can say the word “play” in many different ways, but when the people in Shinar were together, they only spoke one language! God knew that since everyone could talk to each other they could accomplish anything! So he decided to mix up their language so not everyone could talk together! Today let’s read Genesis 11:5-7 then write down play in four different languages: English, Spanish, French and Turkish!

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” – Genesis 11:5-7 NIV

Day 6

Not only did God mix up what they said, but he moved them around too! Today let’s find the names on the left map then match them to the map on the right as we read Genesis 11:8-9!

So the Lord scattered them from all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel — because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth. – Genesis 11:8-9 NIV

Day 7

Let’s remember where Shem came from, and whose ancestor he is. Shem is one of Noah’s three sons and he was the great great great great great great great grandfather of Abraham! Today let’s read Genesis 11:10 then ask your Tiny Arrow what they remember about Shem and what they know about Abraham!

This is the account of Shem’s family line. – Genesis 11:10 NIV

Day 8

Shem was 97 when he boarded the ark and 100 when he had his first baby! Then he lived 400 more years! Today let’s read Genesis 11:10-11 and add a rectangle for Shem starting at 0 and ending at 100! This graph will show us how old Shem’s descendants were when they had their first child! We will add on to this graph for the next two weeks, adding onto one person each day!

Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. And after he became the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters. – Genesis 11:10-11 NIV

Day 10

Day 12

Day 13

Peleg’s son Reu was 32 when he had his first child then he lived 175 more years! Today let’s read Genesis 11:20-21 and add a rectangle for Reu starting at 0 and ending at 32! Save this page for the next few lessons!

When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug. And after he became the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters. – Genesis 11:20-21 NIV

Day 14

Reu’s son Serug was 30 when he had his first child then he lived 170 more years! Today let’s read Genesis 11:22-23 and add a rectangle for Serug starting at 0 and ending at 30! Save this page for the next few lessons!

When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah. And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters. – Genesis 11:24-25 NIV

Day 16

Nahor’s son Terah was 70 when he had his first child! Today let’s read Genesis 11:26 then add a rectangle for Terah starting at 0 and ending at 70! Then take a look at the graph, does the graph go up or down or does it stay the same?

After Terah had left 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. – Genesis 11:26 NIV

Day 17

Now we are starting to go over Abraham and his family! Today let’s read Genesis 11:27 then fill in the names; Terah, Nahor, Haran and Abram! We will be adding to this family tree in the next lessons!

This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. – Genesis 11:27 NIV

Day 18

In the previous lesson we learned that Abram had 2 brothers, and one of them had Lot! Lot is important! He went with Abram to the promised land! Today let’s read Genesis 11:28 and write in the name Lot then cross out Haran’s name on the coloring page. Save this for the next lesson!

While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. – Genesis 11:28 NIV

Day 19

In the previous lesson we learned that Haran died in Ur, but he had more children! Abram also had a wife named Sarai! Today let’s add on the names Milkah and Iskah as we read Genesis 11:29. Later in Genesis 20:12 we learn that Sarai was Terah’s daughter too and Abram’s half sister. Write in the name Sarai then draw a line from Abram to Sarai and a line from Nahor to Milkah on the previous coloring page! Save this for the next lesson!

The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. – Genesis 11:29 NIV

Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. – Genesis 20:12 NIV

Day 20

Sarai is very important in the Bible, but when they lived in Ur, she had no children. Today lets read Genesis 11:30 and add two meeting lines going down from Abram and Sarai and draw a sad face on the previous coloring page.

Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive. – Genesis 11:30 NIV

Day 21

Terah was going go to Canaan with Abram, but he led his family to Harran instead and stayed there! Today let’s read Genesis 11:31-32 then take a look at the map! Today we will be cutting out and gluing Abram and Terah to Ur and Abram and Terah to Harran. Then save this map and the extra two Abram’s! We will use them for a later lesson!

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran. – Genesis 11:31-32 NIV

Day 22

Today let’s reread Genesis 11 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
