Genesis 26

Day 1

We ended Genesis 25, and now we are starting Genesis 26! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 26 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

We learned that Jacob got Esau’s birthright, and now there is a famine in the land! So Isaac and his family went to Gerar where Abimelek king of the Philistines lived! Today let’s read Genesis 26:1 and color the coloring page!

Now there was a famine in the land — besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time – and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. – Genesis 26:1 NIV

Day 3

When Isaac was in Gerar the Lord appeared to him! He told him not to go down to Egypt, but to live where he tells him to live! Today let’s read Genesis 26:2 and grab a map or a globe. Then pretend that your Tiny Arrow gets to choose where you get to live, or vice versa. Have them pick a place on the map and say the place aloud. Then point to a different location and say “Can I live here instead?” Encourage you Tiny Arrow to say no, and repeat the first place they choose. Continue to pick other locations, with your Tiny Arrow emphasizing the first place they choose, until you say ok, “let’s move there!” Then explain that God choose where Isaac could go and he needed to listen and obey!

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live.” – Genesis 26:2 NIV

Day 4

God told Isaac to stay in Gerar and that He would be with him and bless him there! The land was part of where Isaac and his descendants would inherit! Today let’s read Genesis 26:3 and look at a map of Israel. Gerar is close by to where Netivot is today in Israel. Point out the area Isaac was, then look at the map of Israel’s borders — the land Isaac and his descendants would inherit!

“Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.” – Genesis 26:3 NIV

Day 5

The Lord promised Isaac that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky! Just like he promised Abraham! Today let’s read Genesis 26:4-5 and color the coloring page!

“I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions. – Genesis 26:4-5 NIV

Day 6

Isaac and his family are moving to Gerar because of the famine! The Lord told Isaac to stay in Gerar and Isaac obeyed! Today let’s read Genesis 26:6 and find a place in or outside your house to be “Gerar” then encourage them to stay in that spot by having a snack or doing an activity.

So Isaac stayed in Gerar. – Genesis 26:6 NIV

Day 7

When Isaac was in Gerar, he was afraid of telling people that Rebekah was his wife, since she was so beautiful. Today let’s read Genesis 26:7 and ask your Tiny Arrow if there is anything they are afraid of, then tell them Psalm 56:3-4 and encourage them to memorize all or part of that verse!

When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.” – Genesis 26:6-7 NIV

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. – Psalm 56:3-4

Day 8

When Isaac was in Gerar he lied about his wife. When he had been there for a long time the king saw that he was lying and asked him why he lied! Today let’s read Genesis 26:8-9 and ask your Tiny Arrows if they ever did not tell the truth about something and were discovered. How did it make them feel? Colossians 3:9 says do not lie! Then encourage your Tiny Arrows with Zechariah 8:16 to always speak the truth, no matter what!

When Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelek king of the Philistines looked down from a window and saw Issac caressing his wife Rebekah. So Abimelek summoned Isaac and said, “She is really your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” – Genesis 26:8-9 NIV

Do not lie to each other. – Colossians 3:9

Speak the truth to each other. – Zechariah 8:16

Day 9

Isaac had lied to the people of Gerar, and when they found out he was lying he told them he had lied because he was afraid for his life. Today let’s read Genesis 26:9 and pray that we always will trust the Lord in all things!

Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her.” – Genesis 26:9 NIV

Day 10

After Isaac explained he was afraid, Abimelek told him that there could have been bad consequences for his lie. Today let’s read Genesis 26:10 and talk about times in the Bible there were consequences for lying, or consequences your Tiny Arrows might see if there is lying.

Then Abimelek said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the men might well have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.” So Abimelek gave orders to all the people: “Anyone who Harms this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.” – Genesis 26:10-11 NIV

Day 11

Isaac stayed in Gerar and planted crops! He was able to grow more then he planted because the Lord blessed him! Today let’s read Genesis 26:12 and color the coloring page of one seed growing lots of wheat!

Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. – Genesis 26:12 NIV

Day 12

Isaac became rich, then even richer! Today let’s read Genesis 26:13 and grab a large handful of coins. Give your Tiny Arrow one coin at a time and explain how Isaac had some, then more, and then even more!

The man became rich, and his wealth continue to grow until he became very wealthy. – Genesis 26:13 NIV

Day 13

Isaac became wealthy and he has lots of flocks, herd and servants! Today let’s read Genesis 26:14 and color the coloring page!

He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. – Genesis 26:14 NIV

Day 14

The Philistines were jealous of all that Isaac had, so they decided to fill all of Abraham’s wells with dirt, so that Isaac could not get water! Today let’s read Genesis 26:15 and color the coloring page, and fill the well with dirt!

So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with the earth. – Genesis 26:15 NIV

Day 15

Isaac had become powerful with everything he had. So powerful, that Abimelek told him to move away from them! Today let’s read Genesis 26:16 and grab some toys etc and give a few to yourself and more to your Tiny Arrow. Explain that since Isaac had so much more, he had more power, so the king asked him to move away.

Then Abimelek said to Isaac, “Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.” – Genesis 26:16 NIV

Day 16

We learned that the Lord blessed Isaac and he became wealthy and had lots of animals and servants. Then the king of the Philistines told him that he needed to move away from them! So Isaac moved away and went to the Valley of Gerar. Today let’s read Genesis 26:17 and grab your Tiny Arrow’s pillow, blanket and favorite toy. Explain that Isaac had to move, and ask them to grab their things and move them to a different place in the house. Let them place there things down in the new location then explain that Isaac settled in a new area.

So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar, where he settled. – Genesis 26:17 NIV

Day 17

After Isaac moved he opened the wells that had been filled with dirt! Today let’s read Genesis 26:18 and grab a disposable (preferably) cup, and some dirt/sand/crushed paper or small rocks. Place a little bit of water in the cup then fill it with the material. Then have your Tiny Arrow take out the material to reach the water underneath!

Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them. – Genesis 26:18 NIV

Day 18

After Isaac had taken the dirt out of the wells, he made a new well! But the people living nearby argued with Isaac that it was their water, so he named the well Esek, meaning dispute. Today let’s read Genesis 26:19-20 and grab a plastic cup and fill it with water. Explain that Isaac had a fresh well of water for them to drink. Encourage your Tiny Arrow to drink it, but before they can tell them they can’t drink it because Isaac wasn’t allowed to drink the water! The people argued it was their water, so Isaac couldn’t drink it. Then write on the cup Esek (meaning dispute), and save it for the next few lessons.

Isaac’s servant dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. But the herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours! So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with him. – Genesis 26:19-20 NIV

Day 19

After they took the first well, Isaac’s servants dug another well, but the herders wanted that one too! Today let’s read Genesis 26:21 and repeat the same activity as yesterday, showing them the first cup too that the herders wanted, but name the second cup Sitnah (meaning opposition), and save them for the next lesson.

Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah. – Genesis 26:21 NIV

Day 20

Isaac’s servants dug 2 wells which he couldn’t use! Oh no! So Isaac moved on and had his servants dig another well. This time no one argued for it, and Isaac got to drink the water! Today let’s grab the first two cups we used from the previous lessons and grab a third cup. Read Genesis 26:22 and fill the cup with water. Explain that Isaac couldn’t drink out of the first two wells, but he could the third, and let your Tiny Arrow drink out of the third cup and name it Rehoboth (meaning room).

He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.” – Genesis 26:22 NIV

Day 21

After Isaac had dug another well that no one fought over, he moved to Beersheba! Today let’s read Genesis 26:23 and color the coloring page!

From there he went up to Beersheba. – Genesis 26:23 NIV

Day 22

After Isaac moved to Beersheba, the Lord appeared to him! He said He was the God of his father Abraham! Today let’s read Genesis 26:24 and share with your Tiny Arrow how you came to know God!

That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham.” – Genesis 26:24 NIV

Day 23

After Isaac moved to Beersheba, the Lord appeared to him! He said to not be afraid and that He would bless him! Today let’s read Genesis 26:24 and fill in the missing words on the coloring page!

“Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” – Genesis 26:24 NIV

Day 24

After Isaac heard from the Lord, he built an alter and called on the name of the Lord! Today let’s read Genesis 26:25 and go outside and build an alter by stacking some rocks, then call out God’s name!

Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. – Genesis 26:25 NIV

Day 25

After Isaac heard from the Lord he made his tent and his servants dug another well! Today let’s read Genesis 26:25 and either make a fort/tent or make a well with a new cup!

There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well. – Genesis 26:25 NIV

Day 26

After Isaac had moved to Beersheba and the Lord visited him, Abimelek and two other men came from Gerar to visit him! Today let’s read Genesis 26:26 and color the coloring page!

Meanwhile, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar, Abuzzath his personal advisor and Phicol the commander of his forces. – Genesis 26:26 NIV

Day 27

When Abimelek and the two men came, Isaac asked him why they were there. Today let’s read Genesis 26:27 and play Knock Knock, who’s there? You can also try incorporating Isaac’s comments as a response!

Isaac asked them, “Why have you come to me, since you were hostile to me and sent me away?” – Genesis 26:27 NIV

Day 28

Yesterday we learned that Isaac asked Abimelek why he was there, and Abimelek answered him! He wanted to make a treaty with Isaac that they would not hurt each other! Today let’s read Genesis 26:28-29 and make a treaty with your Tiny Arrow about whatever you want!

They answered, “We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said, ‘There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’ — between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you that you will do us no harm, just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the Lord. – Genesis 26:28-29 NIV

Day 29

Yesterday we learned that Abimelek wanted to make a treaty with Isaac that they would not do any harm to each other. Then Abimelek told him that Isaac was blessed by the Lord! He could see that the Lord had and was blessing him! Today let’s finish Genesis 26:29 and think about all the ways the Lord has blessed you, and others!

“And now you are blessed by the Lord. – Genesis 26:29 NIV

Day 30

Isaac made a feast for Abimelek and the men with him. Today let’s read Genesis 26:30 and ask your Tiny Arrow if they were to make a feast for someone, especially a king, what would they serve?

Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. Genesis 26:30 NIV

Day 31

We learned that Abimelek came to visit Isaac and they made a treaty! After they swore an oath, they went back home. Today let’s read Genesis 26:31 and take a walk!

Early the next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully. – Genesis 26:31 NIV

Day 32

After Abimelek and his friends had left, Isaac’s servants found water in their new well! Today let’s read Genesis 26:32 and draw a well deep enough to get water and color the coloring page!

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. They said, “We’ve found water!”- Genesis 26:32 NIV

Day 33

Isaac named the well Shibah, which means oath or seven and the town he was in was named Beersheba, which means well of the oath. Today let’s read Genesis 26:33 and look up the meaning of the name of the town, street or area you live in!

He called it Shibah, and to this day the name of the town has been Beersheba. – Genesis 26:33 NIV

Day 34

We learned about Isaac, now let’s talk about his son Esau. When he was 40 he married two Hittite women! Let’s read Genesis 26:34 and color the coloring page.

When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite. – Genesis 26:34 NIV

Day 35

Isaac and Rebekah did not like Esau’s new wives. Today let’s read Genesis 26:35 and say a special prayer for our grandparents!

They were a great source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah. – Genesis 26:35 NIV

Day 36

Today let’s reread Genesis 26 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
