Day 1
We ended Genesis 26, and now we are starting Genesis 27! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 27 to your Tiny Arrows!
Day 2
Isaac is now old and it is hard for him to see. He called for his son Esau, and Esau answered him. Today let’s read Genesis 27:1 and play a type of Marco Polo where you close or squint your eyes and when you call out your child’s name they respond with “Here I am,” until you catch them!
When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called Esau his older son and said to him’ “My son.” “Here I am,” he answered.- Genesis 27:1 NIV
Day 3
Yesterday we learned that Isaac was old. Some people think he was 123 years old when he called for Esau! His mother had died at 127 and his father at 175! Today let’s read Genesis 27:2 and find out the difference between 123 and 127 and 123 and 175!
12: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joesph, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
Isaac said, “I am now an old man and do not know the day of my death.” – Genesis 27:2 NIV
Day 4
Isaac asked Esau to go outside in the fields and to bring back something to eat using his quiver and bow! Today let’s read Genesis 27:3 and look up pictures/videos of people using their quiver and bow, or if you have one, show/demonstrate it for your Tiny Arrow!
“Now then, get your equipment — your quiver and bow — and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.” – Genesis 27:3 NIV
Day 5
Isaac wanted him to bring back an animal so he could eat it then bless Esau! Today let’s read Genesis 27:4 and ask our father/parent to pray over you!
“Preparing me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.” – Genesis 27:4 NIV
Day 6
Esau left his father to go find some food, but Rebekah had been listening to! Today let’s read Genesis 27:5 and then grab a toy animal and hide it outside, then have your Tiny Arrow go find it and bring it back!
Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back – Genesis 27:5 NIV
Day 7
We learned that Isaac asked Esau to go get him some food, and Rebekah overheard what was said. Today let’s read Genesis 27:6-7 and play telephone!
Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, ‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’” – Genesis 27:6-7 NIV
Day 8
Yesterday we learned that Esau was told to do something and Rebekah told Jacob what Esau was suppose to do. Today let’s read Genesis 27:8 and ask your Tiny Arrow’s to listen carefully and to do something you tell them to do!
“Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you.” – Genesis 27:8 NIV
Day 9
Rebekah wanted Jacob to go and find 2 goats from their flock and bring it back for her to make a meal! Today let’s read Genesis 27:9 and grab two animal toys and hide them in the house and have your Tiny Arrow find them and bring them back!
“Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.” – Genesis 27:9 NIV
Day 10
Rebekah wanted Jacob to get some food for her to make for Isaac so that Jacob would get blessed. Today let’s read Genesis 27:10 and have your Tiny Arrow help you make their father/parent a meal/snack and bring it to them.
“Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.” – Genesis 27:10 NIV
Day 11
Jacob knew that although Esau and he were twin brothers, they looked nothing alike! He had smooth skin, and Esau was hairy! Today let’s read Genesis 27:11-12 and grab something smooth and something “hairy” and have your Tiny Arrow feel and see the difference!
Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “But my brother Esau is a hairy man while I have smooth skin. What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.” – Genesis 27:11-12 NIV
Day 12
We learned that Isaac told Esau to do something, but Rebekah wanted Jacob to do it first! Jacob did not want to obey his mother in case he got in trouble instead or getting a reward. But his mother said she was willing to get in trouble for him! Today let’s read Genesis 27:13 (and 27:11-12 for a refresher) and play hot potato, with the potato representing the curse.
His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.” – Genesis 27:13 NIV
Day 13
Jacob obeyed his mother and got two goats for his father to eat. Today let’s read Genesis 27:14 and have your Tiny Arrow help you prepare a snack for their father/parent.
So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it. – Genesis 27:14 NIV
Day 14
Rebekah made a meal for Isaac and gave Jacob some of Esau’s clothes to wear! Today let’s read Genesis 27:15 and have your Tiny Arrow try on/wear their siblings/parents clothing.
Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob. – Genesis 27:15 NIV
Day 15
Rebekah knew that Esau was hairy and Jacob had smooth skin, so she put goats hair on Jacob to make him more hairy! Today let’s read Genesis 27:16-17 and color the coloring page!
She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goat skins. Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made. – Genesis 27:16-17 NIV
Day 16
Jacob went to talk with his father, but he sounded like Jacob, not Esau! Today let’s read Genesis 27:18 and try to talk like one of your siblings or someone you know!
He went to his father and said, “My father.”“Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?” – Genesis 27:18 NIV
Day 17
We learned Jacob went to see Isaac, but was dressed like Esau! He wanted to give Isaac a meal and get a blessing! Jacob told his father that he was Esau and that he had done what his father asked him to do. Today let’s read Genesis 27:19 and ask your father/parent for a chore to do, then do it and tell them you finished it!
Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.” – Genesis 27:19 NIV
Day 18
Isaac was surprised that Jacob had made the food so quickly and Jacob told him the Lord had helped him! It was quicker for Jacob to make food he already had at home, then to go out and get it, bring it back and make it. Today let’s read Genesis 27:20 and with your Tiny Arrows figure out how long it would take to make a meal at home, and how long it would take to go out to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients and then make it at home.
Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?” “The Lord gave me success,” he replied. – Genesis 27:20 NIV
Day 19
Jacob went to see Isaac, but Isaac was not sure which son it was. It was suppose to be Esau, not Jacob that came to see him. Today let’s read Genesis 27:21 and close your eyes, then have your Tiny Arrow come up to you and either try to be one of their siblings, or someone else, and guess who they are trying to be! Or if you have many Tiny Arrows have them try to be each other and guess who they are!
Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come near so I can touch you, my son, to know whether you really are my firstborn Esau or not.” – Genesis 27:21 NIV
Day 20
Isaac could not tell which son was talking to him since he sounded like Jacob, but felt hairy like Esau! Today let’s read Genesis 27:22-23 and have your Tiny Arrow grab a few of their favorite stuffed animals and then close their eyes and try to guess which ones they are by having you hold one of them up to them at a time.
Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him. – Genesis 27:22-23 NIV
Day 21
Isaac asked Jacob again if he really was Esau and Jacob said yes. So Isaac told him to bring him the meal and get a blessing. Today let’s read Genesis 27:24-25 and again ask your father/parent for a chore, and ask them for a blessing after you accomplish it!
“Are you really my son Esau?” he asked. “I am,” he replied. Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.” Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank. – Genesis 27:24-25 NIV
Day 22
Isaac had eaten the food and drank the wine Jacob brought him, thinking it was Esau the whole time. Then Isaac told his son to come and give him a kiss! Today let’s read Genesis 27:26 and ask your Tiny Arrow to give you a kiss and or hug.
Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.” – Genesis 27:26 NIV
Day 23
Jacob went to kiss his father, and when he was close to Isaac, his father could smell him! He said he smelled like a field! Today let’s read Genesis 27:27 and have your Tiny Arrow come up to you and tell them what they smell like!
So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said, “Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.” – Genesis 27:27 NIV
Day 24
Isaac started to bless his son. The first thing he said for him was for heavens dew and earths riches, then grain and wine! Today let’s read Genesis 27:28 and do the fill in the blank!
“May God give you heavens dew and earth’s riches – an abundance of grain in new wine.” – Genesis 27:28 NIV
Day 25
Isaac continued to bless Jacob! He said may nations bow down to you and may he be in charge of his brother! Today let’s read Genesis 27:29 and pretend to bow or curtesy!
“May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.” – Genesis 27:29 NIV
Day 26
Isaac finished blessing Jacob! He said those who curse him will be cursed and bless him be blessed! Today let’s read Genesis 27:29 and say some blessings for Jacob/Israel!
“May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.” – Genesis 27:29 NIV
Day 27
Isaac blessed Jacob, and when he was done Jacob left. Then Esau came back from hunting! Remember it took less time for Jacob to make food at home then to go out and get food and make it at home. Today let’s read Genesis 27:30 and ask your Tiny Arrow what Esau is going to do!
After Isaac finished blessing him, and Jacob had scarcely left his father’s presence, his brother Esau came in from hunting. – Genesis 27:30 NIV
Day 28
Esau made Isaac food and asked him for his blessing! Today lets read Genesis 27:31 and color the coloring page!
He too prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Then he said to him, “My father, please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.” – Genesis 27:31 NIV
Day 29
Jacob had just left saying he was Esau. Now Esau came to see Isaac and he asked him who he was. Today let’s read Genesis 27:32 and ask your Tiny Arrow who they are while your eyes are closed and have them answer you!
His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?” “I am your son,“ he answered, “your firstborn, Esau.” – Genesis 27:32 NIV
Day 30
Isaac was confused! If he was talking to Esau then who did he talk to before? It was a mystery! Today read Genesis 27:33 and ask your Tiny Arrow to solve the mystery!
Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him — and indeed he will be blessed!” – Genesis 27:33 NIV
Day 31
Esau was upset that Jacob took what was his! He wanted to be blessed like his brother had been blessed! Today let’s read Genesis 27:34-35 and bless someone you know either with words or a treat!
When Esau heard his father‘s words, he burst out with the loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me — me too, my father!“ But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.” – Genesis 27:34-35 NIV
Day 32
Esau found out that Jacob took his blessing and then he asked if there was any blessing left over for him! Today let’s read Genesis 27:36 and color Jacob and Esau, but keep the rest for the next four lessons.
Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taking my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?” – Genesis 27:36 NIV
Day 33
Isaac had blessed Jacob with grain and new wine and did not know what he could give Esau! Today let’s read Genesis 27:37 and color and draw a line to who got what based off of today’s verse in yesterday’s coloring page!
Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?” – Genesis 27:37 NIV
Day 34
Esau wanted a blessing too! He thought Isaac had another blessing to give! Today let’s read Genesis 27:38 and grab two small, similar items. Hide one and have the other in front of you. Tell your Tiny Arrow the first represents Jacob’s blessing. Then tell them Esau wanted one too! Now have your Tiny Arrow go find the second hidden item that represents Esau’s blessing.
Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud. – Genesis 27:38 NIV
Day 35
Isaac blessed Esau opposite what he blessed Jacob! Today let’s read Genesis 27:39 and draw a line to who got what blessing from the previous coloring page!
His father Isaac answered him, “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above.” – Genesis 27:39 NIV
Day 36
Isaac finished blessing Esau, but it was opposite of what he said to Jacob! Today let’s read Genesis 27:40 and fill out the missing pieces from the previous coloring page and have your Tiny Arrow help to serve in some way! Setting the table, picking up, etc!
“You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.” – Genesis 27:40 NIV
Day 37
After Isaac had blessed Esau, Esau got angry with his brother for taking the better blessing. He was so angry he wanted to kill his brother! Today let’s read Genesis 27:41 and then read Ephesians 4:26 and 4:32 and discuss how Jesus would want us to react!
Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.” – Genesis 27:41 NIV
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. – Ephesians 4:26
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:3
Day 38
Rebekah heard that Esau was mad at Jacob and warned Jacob! Today let’s read Genesis 27:42 and color the coloring page about warning signs!
When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.” – Genesis 27:42 NIV
Day 39
Rebekah warned Jacob and wanted him to run and hide at her brother’s house! Today let’s read Genesis 27:43-44 and pick a room in your house for your Tiny Arrow to go run and hide in! Then go find them!
“Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran. Stay with him for a while until your brother’s fury subsides.” – Genesis 27:43-44 NIV
Day 40
Rebekah wanted Jacob to go to her brother’s house to keep away from Esau, and she said she would send him a letter when he should come back. Today let’s read Genesis 27:45 and write your Tiny Arrow a letter and help them read it!
“When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?” – Genesis 27:45 NIV
Day 41
Rebekah told Isaac she did not like the women that Esau married, and wanted Jacob to marry someone different. Today let’s read Genesis 27:46 and pray that we always follow God’s leading for the choices in our lives!
Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.” – Genesis 27:46 NIV
Day 42
Today let’s reread Genesis 27 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
