Genesis 28

Day 1

We ended Genesis 27, and now we are starting Genesis 28! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 28 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

Genesis 27 ended with Rebekah wanting Jacob to find a wife somewhere else. Now Isaac is telling Jacob to go back to where Rebekah came from to find one! Today let’s read Genesis 28:1-2 and color the coloring page, then tell your Tiny Arrow where you came from and map out how to get there!

So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.” – Genesis 28:1-2 NIV

Day 3

Yesterday we learned that Isaac started to bless Jacob and told him to go to Paddan Aram and find a wife. Then he blessed him to increase and be fruitful! Today let’s read Genesis 28:3 and ask your Tiny Arrows how many sons Jacob had and if they know any of their names!

12: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joesph, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

“May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.” – Genesis 28:3 NIV

Day 4

Isaac blessed Jacob with finding a new wife, increasing in numbers with children, and now land! Today let’s read Genesis 28:4 and ask your Tiny Arrows which land God have Abraham!

“May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God have to Abraham.” – Genesis 28:4 NIV

Day 5

Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and sent him on his way to his uncle to find a wife! Today let’s read Genesis 28:5 and have your Tiny Arrow grab a backpack then choose a spot inside or outside to represent Paddan Aram and have them travel there. When they get there pretend to be their Uncle Laban and greet them!

Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau. – Genesis 28:5 NIV

Day 6

We learned that Jacob was sent by Isaac to Paddan Aram to find a wife. Now Esau learned about it too! Today let’s read Genesis 28:6-7 then ask your Tiny Arrows if Esau had married a Canaanite woman! Yes! Two! Judith and Basemath who were both Hittites!

Now Esau had learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,” and that Jacob obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.  – Genesis 28:6-7 NIV

Day 7

After Esau heard that his father did not like the Canaanite women, he understood his point of view. Today let’s read Genesis 28:8 and explain your point of view compared to your Tiny Arrows. For example, things might look smaller to you, but larger to them. Let them stand at your height and show them what you see from your perspective.

Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac; – Genesis 28:8 NIV

Day 8

Esau decided to marry again. He asked Ishmael to marry his daughter and he said yes!  Today let’s read Genesis 28:9 and color the coloring page.

So he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.- Genesis 28:9 NIV

Day 9

Jacob left for Beersheba to go to Harran in Paddan Aram. It would take about 13 hours to drive there, and 7 days to walk. Today let’s read Genesis 28:10 and have your Tiny Arrow guess a place that would take a similar time to reach and look it up!

Jacob left Beersheba and set our for Harran. – Genesis 28:10 NIV

Day 10

Jacob traveled until the sun went down then he stopped. Today let’s read Genesis 28:11 and watch live or a video/image of a sunrise and a sunset, going over with your Tiny Arrow the amount of light you get at the different times of the day!

When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. – Genesis 28:11 NIV

Day 11

We learned that Jacob had set out for Harran and stopped for the night because it was dark. So he found a stone and used that for a pillow! Today let’s finish Genesis 28:11 then go outside and have your Tiny Arrow find a rock to use as their pillow and try it out! Keep the rock for future activities.

Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.  – Genesis 28:11 NIV

Day 12

As Jacob slept he had a dream about a staircase! The staircase was so high it reached all the way to heaven! Today let’s read Genesis 28:12 and find a staircase or use some blocks/pillows as an example. Have them climb it one step at a time, telling them how it went up, up and up! Point out where their staircase ends, then take them outside and point to the sky, showing them how high the staircase Jacob had seen must have been!

He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven – Genesis 28:12 NIV

Day 13

Jacob had a dream about a staircase going to heaven, and he saw God’s angels going up and down it. Today let’s read Genesis 28:13 and use the same staircase you had yesterday. Have your Tiny Arrow go up, and you go down, when you meet at the middle say, “Hello, I am an angel of God.” Shake hands then continue to go up and down.

and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. – Genesis 28:12 NIV

Day 14

Jacob had a dream and saw angels going up and down on a staircase to heaven! Then he heard the voice of the Lord! The Lord said He was the God of his father and grandfather! He was a God that was familiar to his family! Today let’s read Genesis 28:14 and tell your Tiny Arrows your and your father/mother’s God!

There above it stood the Lord, and he said “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.” – Genesis 28:13 NIV

Day 15

Above the staircase in Jacob’s dream he heard the Lord say that he would get the land he was sleeping on! This is just what his father Isaac blessed him with! Today let’s read Genesis 28:14 and ask your Tiny Arrow which land this is!

“I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. – Genesis 28:13 NIV

Day 16

The Lord told Jacob he would have so many descendants, it would be like the dust of the earth! Just what He told Abraham! Today let’s read Genesis 28:14 and 13:16 and color the coloring page!

“I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lyi“Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth” – Genesis 28:14 NIV

“I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.” – Genesis 13:16 NIV

Day 17

The Lord told Jacob he would spread out to the west, east, north and south! Today let’s read more of Genesis 28:14 and color the coloring page and find the directions!

“I will give you and your descendants the land on which you “and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.” – Genesis 28:14 NIV

Day 18

The Lord then told Jacob that everyone would be blessed through him and his children! Today let’s read the rest of Genesis 28:14 and ask your Tiny Arrow how they have been blessed through Jacob and his children!

“All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.” – Genesis 28:14 NIV

Day 19

The Lord continued to speak to Jacob and told him that He would be with him and watch over him on his trip and would bring him back to Israel! Today let’s read Genesis 28:15 and take your Tiny Arrow for a walk. Walk close or hold their hand and tell them that God was close to Jacob when he left home and helped him to get back!

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land.” – Genesis 28:15 NIV

Day 20

The Lord finished talking to Jacob and told him that He would not leave him until He did everything he promised! The Lord is faithful! Today let’s read Genesis 28:15 and then sing your favorite worship song or make up your own about the Lord always being faithful!

“I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised.” – Genesis 28:15 NIV

Day 21

We learned that Jacob saw a vision of a staircase coming down from heaven and the Lord spoke to him! When he woke up he thought that the Lord had been there the whole time, and he didn’t know it! But the Lord is with us everywhere! Today let’s read Genesis 28:16 and then Jeremiah 23:24 then have your Tiny Arrow go to different places and when they get there, tell them that the Lord is with them!

“When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” – Genesis 28:16 NIV

“Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill the earth?” Jeremiah 23:34 NIV

Day 22

Jacob said that the Lord was in that place, then he said it was awesome! Today let’s read Genesis 28:17 and ask your Tiny Arrow about places they think are awesome, and how much more awesome it is to be where you can feel God’s presence and hear His voice!

He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place!” – Genesis 28:17 NIV

Day 23

Jacob thought it was awesome hearing from the Lord and being in His presence. He thought he was in the house of God at the gate of heaven! Today let’s read Genesis 28:18 and have your Tiny Arrow draw God’s house and heaven’s gate at the top of a staircase!

“This is none other then the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” – Genesis 28:17 NIV

Day 24

When Jacob woke up he took the stone he had used for a pillow and set it up as an alter and poured oil on it. Today let’s read Genesis 28:18 and grab the stone from last week (or a new one) and pour some oil on it like Jacob did!

Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. – Genesis 28:18 NIV

Day 25

Jacob renamed the place he was in to remember what had happened. He called the place Bethel, which means the house of God even though it used to be called Luz, which means almond tree. Today let’s read Genesis 28:19 and ask your Tiny Arrow to rename a place they liked or visited from what they remember/saw there! For example, they enjoyed a park that had a red slide, so you rename it the red slide park!

He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. – Genesis 28:19 NIV

Day 26

We learned that Jacob heard God, made an alter from the stone that was his pillow and renamed the place he was in Bethel. Afterwards he made a vow to God! His vow was what God had already promised him! Today let’s begin Genesis 28:20 and reread the beginning of Genesis 28:25 then ask your Tiny Arrow if they remember walking hand in hand last week. Then praise the Lord with shouts or music that God has already promised to be with him and is faithful!

“Then Jacob made a vow saying saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking – Genesis 28:20 NIV

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.” – Genesis 28:15 NIV

Day 27

Jacob made a vow wanting God to be with him and God had already said he would! Then Jacob wanted to make sure that God would give him food to eat and clothes to wear! He wanted to make sure he was provided for! Jesus told the people not to worry about what they eat or what they will wear! Today let’s read the rest of Genesis 28:20 and Luke 12:22-34.

“and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear.” – Genesis 28:20 NIV

Day 28

Jacob wanted God to bring him to his uncles house, make sure he had food and drink, and to bring him back home! He wanted him to be with him the whole time! God had even already promised that he would! Today let’s read Genesis 28:21 and 28:15 and remember something the Lord told your family or someone in the Bible a promise, and it coming true!

“so that I return safely to my father’s household.” – Genesis 28:21 NIV

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land.” – Genesis 28:15 NIV

Day 29

Jacob said if God would be with him and provide for him then He would be his God! He would even give God a tithe! Today let’s read Genesis 28:22 and grab 10 objects to represent a tenth, and give them all to your Tiny Arrow and have them give you one tenth (one) back!

then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.” – Genesis 28:22 NIV

Day 30

Today let’s reread Genesis 28 and remember the activities and verses we learned!
