Exodus 4

Day 1

We ended Exodus 3, and now we are starting Exodus 4! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Exodus 4 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

Moses is still speaking to God at the burning bush! He was worried that no one would believe him! Today let’s read Exodus 4:1 and 2 Corinthians 5:7. Then talk to your Tiny Arrows about believing something without seeing it. Give them an example like “What if their pet came up to them and started singing a song.”Would they believe it or would they have had to see it first. The Bible has amazing stories that might be hard to believe without seeing it for ourselves, but we are suppose to walk by faith and not by sight.

Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” – Exodus 4:1 NIV

For we walk by faith, and not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

Day 3

Moses was worried about the Israelites believing him. God heard Moses, but changed his focus to what was in his hand. It was a staff! Today let’s read Exodus 4:2 and grab a bowl of cereal or something similar and a spoon. Hold the spoon away from the bowl and tell your Tiny Arrow you’re not sure how to eat the food. Then encourage your Tiny Arrow to point to the spoon already in your hand! You had everything you needed, just like Moses!

Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. – Exodus 4:2 NIV

Day 4

Moses was worried, and God told him to look at what was in his hand! A staff! Then God told him to throw it on the ground and he did! It became a snake and Moses ran from it! Today let’s read Exodus 4:3 grab some play-doh (or something similar). Make a staff out of the play-doh then have your Tiny Arrow throw it to the ground and make it into a snake and have your Tiny Arrow pretend to run away!

The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.– Exodus 4:3 NIV

Day 5

Moses’ staff turned into a snake! Then God told Moses to grab it again and it became a staff again! Amazing! Today let’s read Exodus 4:4 and grab the same play-doh from the previous activity and have your Tiny Arrow grab it and change it back into a staff!

Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. – Exodus 4:4 NIV

Day 6

God told Moses that the staff turning into a snake then back again into a staff was a sign! It was something Moses could repeat and prove to the other Israelites that he was being truthful! God hadn’t ignored Moses’ worries, He gave him a solution! Today let’s read Exodus 4:5 and ask your Tiny Arrow if there was any miracle from the Bible they would like to do themselves, what would it be? Walking on water, multiplying food, turning a stick into a snake?

“This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.” – Exodus 4:5 NIV

Day 7

God gave Moses a sign to perform. A staff turning into a snake. Then He gave him another sign! God told Moses to put his hand inside his cloak and take it out again! When he did his hand turned white! Then he put the same hand back into his cloak and out again and it became normal again! Today let’s read Exodus 4:6 and grab a bowl of flour, a towel and a bowl of water. Put the bowls side by side then put the towel over them both. Take your Tiny Arrows hand and put a little bit of water on them from the first bowl, then dip it in the flour. Show them their hand then place it back under the towel and wipe it off in the water and bring it back out again!

Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow. “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh. – Exodus 4:6-7 NIV

Day 8

God gave Moses two signs to prove that he had spoken and heard from God! Today let’s read Exodus 4:8 and ask your Tiny Arrow what the signs were. The first one was a staff turning into a snake and back again. The second was his hand becoming white and normal again!

Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. – Exodus 4:8 NIV

Day 9

God gave Moses three signs! The first was a staff into a snake, the second was his hand turning white and the third was taking water from the Nile and pouring it out on the ground. When it touched the ground it became blood! Today let’s read Exodus 4:9 and color the coloring page!

But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.” – Exodus 4:9 NIV

Day 10

God gave Moses three signs, but Moses still thought he could not do it! He said he was not a good speaker and was slow to speak! Today let’s read Exodus 4:10 and have your Tiny Arrow say a sentence really slowly. They are taking slow, just like Moses said he talked slow!

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” – Exodus 4:10 NIV

Day 11

Moses said he couldn’t do what God asked because he was slow to speak. God told Moses that He gave people their ability to talk and see, and that He would help him! Today let’s read Exodus 4:11-12 and go over your 5 senses with your Tiny Arrow. Hearing, seeing, smelling, touching and tasting!

The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” – Exodus 4:11-12 NIV

Day 12

God wanted Moses to do a big job, but Moses still didn’t want to do it! So God told Moses his brother Aaron would help! Today let’s read Exodus 4:13-14 and talk to your Tiny Arrow about a job or a chore that they like to have help on! Then ask them who they would want to have them help!

But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.” – Exodus 4:13-14 NIV

Day 13

God told Moses that He would speak to his brother Aaron. But God would help both of them speak and teach them what to do! Today let’s read Exodus 4:14-15 and give your Tiny Arrow a new word or phrase for them to repeat! You can even try to teach them a word or phrase from a different language!

“You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.” – Exodus 4:14-15 NIV

Day 14

God wanted Moses and Aaron to work together! Aaron would be the mouth and Moses would represent God! Today let’s read Exodus 4:16 and find or make a puppet! You can also just gently move your Tiny Arrows chin up and down to pretend they are the puppet! As you speak for the puppet, explain that Aaron was the speaker and Moses the representative!

He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. – Exodus 4:16 NIV

Day 15

God wanted Moses and Aaron to work together, but He also told him to still bring his staff! Today let’s read Exodus 4:17 and have your Tiny Arrow grab a stick or staff and go for a walk with them! Moses and Aaron were working together, but they still had the staff!

“But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.” – Exodus 4:17 NIV

Day 16

Moses finished talking with God then went back to his house! He told his father in-law that he wanted to go back home to Egypt! Today let’s read Exodus 4:18 and have your Tiny Arrow tell you they want to go to their room, then tell them “Go!”

Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.” Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.” – Exodus 4:18 NIV

Day 17

When God and Moses had talked, God told him to go back to Egypt! He told him everyone who had wanted to kill him was dead! Today let’s read Exodus 4:19 and Exodus 2:14-15 and ask your Tiny Arrow who had wanted to kill Moses! Pharaoh!

Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead.” – Exodus 4:19 NIV

The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.” When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well. – Exodus 2:14-15 NIV

Day 18

Moses was ready to go! He got his wife, his two sons and his staff and they headed to Egypt! Today let’s read Exodus 4:20 and ask your Tiny Arrow, if they were to go on a vacation, who would come with them and what would they bring!

So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand. – Exodus 4:20 NIV

Day 19

God told Moses to preform the three signs in front of Pharaoh! But He knew Pharaoh would not listen! Today let’s read Exodus 4:21 and ask your Tiny Arrow what the three signs were. A staff into a snake, a sick hand and water into blood! Then ask them that if someone did that in front of them, would they believe them and listen to what they said?

The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. – Exodus 4:21 NIV

Day 20

God told Moses what to say to Pharaoh and what would happen. He was warning Pharaoh from the beginning that He would kill his son. God warned Pharaoh because He knew he would not let His people go! Today let’s read Exodus 4:22-23 talk to your Tiny Arrow about warnings. You can talk about different warning signs they might see on the road or in a building. The signs are meant to warn us of possible danger. God told Moses to give Pharaoh signs then a warning!

Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you, “Let my son go, so he may worship me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’ ” – Exodus 4:22-23 NIV

Day 21

Moses and his family left their home and were on their way to Egypt. They stopped on the way to sleep and the Lord was about to kill Moses! Oh my! His wife Zipporah knew that not circumcising her son before was a bad choice, so she quickly did it and the Lord let them go. Today let’s read Exodus 4:24-26 and Genesis 17:11-14 and remind our Tiny Arrows how important circumcision was to the Lord! It represented His promise to His chosen people!

At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.) – Exodus 4:24-26 NIV

“You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” – Genesis 17:11-14 NIV

Day 22

Moses and his family left their home to go to Egypt! Meanwhile, Aaron had left Egypt to go meet Moses! They met on the mountain and Aaron kissed his brother as a greeting! Today let’s read Exodus 4:27 and have your Tiny Arrow start at one point in the house or outside, and you start at another point. Meet in the middle, and when you do, give your Tiny Arrow a kiss! Just like Aaron kissed his brother!

The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him. – Exodus 4:27 NIV

Day 23

Moses and Aaron met! Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had said and all the signs he was suppose to do! Today let’s read Exodus 4:28 and ask your Tiny Arrow if they can remember anything God told Moses or any of the signs!

Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform. – Exodus 4:28 NIV

Day 24

Moses and Aaron traveled to Egypt and met with the elders of Israel! Together they told them what God had told Moses! Today let’s read Exodus 4:29-30 and go with your Tiny Arrow to someone else in your house, a friend or even a toy. Together tell them something God had told Moses!

Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. – Exodus 4:29-30 NIV

Day 25

Moses and Aaron told the elders of Israel what God told Moses! Then Moses showed them the 3 signs! Afterwards and people were so happy they bowed down and worshiped! Today let’s read Exodus 4:30-31 and ask your Tiny Arrow one of the three signs. Then explain that God loves them so much he wants to help them! After, sing and dance to a worship song!

He also performed the signs before the people, and they believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped. – Exodus 4:30-31 NIV

Day 26

Today let’s reread Exodus 4 and remember some of the activity’s we did!
