Exodus 8

Day 1

We finished Exodus 7 and now we are starting Exodus 8! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Exodus 8 to your Tiny Arrows!

Day 2

God had already warned Pharaoh that if he didn’t let His people go the water would turn to blood! Pharaoh didn’t listen! Now God is telling Moses to warn Pharaoh again, and this time if he doesn’t listen then there would be a plague of frogs! Today let’s read Exodus 8:1-2 and have your Tiny Arrow jump up and down like a frog!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country.’” – Exodus 8:1-2 NIV

Day 3

God was not going to send a little bit of frogs to Egypt, but thousands! So many that they would hop into people’s homes. They would hope onto people’s bedrooms and on their beds! Today let’s read Exodus 8:3 and have your Tiny Arrow jump like a frog on their bed and all around your house!

“‘The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs.’”  – Exodus 8:3 NIV

Day 4

The frogs were going to be everywhere! Usually frogs jump away from people, but these ones would jump on the people! Everyone in Egypt would have a frog problem! Today let’s read Exodus 8:4 and have your Tiny Arrow try to jump like a frog on you or after you!

“‘The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’” – Exodus 8:4 NIV

Day 5

The Lord told Moses that Aaron was suppose to stretch out his staff over the waters, and when he did frogs would come up! Today let’s read Exodus 8:5 and grab some paper and blue and green crayons. Help your Tiny Arrow draw a few large blue circles on the paper to represent the water. Then help them draw small green circles in the blue circles to represent frogs!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’” – Exodus 8:5 NIV

Day 6

Aaron did as God had commanded Moses! He stretched out his hand over the waters and frogs came up! Today let’s read Exodus 8:6 and grab a small blanket and a staff, umbrella or even a stick! Have your Tiny Arrow sit in a frog position under the blanket and as you stretch out your staff over the blanket have them jump out!

So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. – Exodus 8:6 NIV

Day 7

God performed a miracle through Aaron by making lots of frogs! But the magicians did the same thing! Now there were even more frogs! Today let’s read Exodus 8:7 and have a frog jumping contest! Have yourself or someone else represent the frogs the magicians summoned while your Tiny Arrow represents the frogs Aaron summoned. Then have a contest to see who hops from one place to another the fastest! (P.S. let your Tiny Arrow win 😉 )

But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt. – Exodus 8:7 NIV

Day 8

There were so many frogs that Pharaoh got sick of seeing them and they wouldn’t go away! So Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron that if they were able to make them leave, he would let the people go! Today let’s read Exodus 8:8 and ask your Tiny Arrow how many plagues there have been so far. 2! Blood and frogs! Then ask if they can remember how many plagues there were. 10! Pharaoh might have said he was letting them go, but that doesn’t mean he will keep his promise!

Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.” – Exodus 8:8 NIV

Day 9

Moses wanted to make sure Pharaoh knew it was God who sent the frogs and God who could take them away. So he told Pharaoh to pick a time for him to pray to God to make the frogs leave! Today let’s read Exodus 8:9 and have your Tiny Arrow pick a time of the day. Then set an alarm for that time pray and do it!

Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.” – Exodus 8:9 NIV

Day 10

Moses told Pharaoh to say when the frogs should leave, and Pharaoh said tomorrow! Moses wanted to make sure Pharaoh knew it was God who was taking the frogs away! Today let’s read Exodus 8:10-11 and grab a toy or figure to represent a frog. Then place the “frog” in front of your Tiny Arrow and have them choose a numbers 5-10. Then count with them to that number and take away the “frog” when you get to the number.

“Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said. Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God. The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.” – Exodus 8:10-11 NIV

Day 11

Pharaoh had asked Moses to pray to God to make the frogs go away! Moses did pray! Today let’s read Exodus 8:12 and talk to your Tiny Arrows about the importance of prayer! When someone asks you to pray, and you say you will, it is important to do it! Moses prayed to God because Pharaoh asked him too! Then ask your Tiny Arrow if they will pray with you, then do it!

After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. – Exodus 8:12 NIV

Day 12

Moses prayed to God about making the frogs go away; and God did it. All the frogs died! Today let’s read Exodus 8:13 and talk to your Tiny Arrow about how God answered Moses prayer. The frogs did not disappear or hop away, they died and were a reminder what God had done! God might not always answer us in what we think should happen, but He knows what is best!

And the Lord did what Moses asked. The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields. – Exodus 8:13 NIV

Day 13

Moses prayed for the frogs to go away and they all died! They piled the frogs into big piles and it smelled bad! Eww! Today let’s read Exodus 8:14 and grab a bunch of stuffed animals. Scatter them on the floor then have your Tiny Arrow put them into a big pile! Like the frogs were put into a big pile!

They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. – Exodus 8:14 NIV

Day 14

Pharaoh had asked Moses to pray to God to take away the frogs. If Moses said he would pray, Pharaoh said he would let God’s people go! But when all the frogs got taken away Pharaoh changed his mind and would not let the people go! Oh no! Today let’s read Exodus 8:15 and have your Tiny Arrow make a fist, then have them loosen their hand then make a fist squeeze and it as hard as they can. Pharaoh’s heart was hard before, it loosened, then it became hard again! Then remind your Tiny Arrows we should have a soft heart towards God!

But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said. – Exodus 8:15 NIV

Day 15

God had sent a plague of blood and frogs, but Pharaoh still didn’t let His people go! So God was going to send a third plague! He told Moses to have Aaron strike the dust of the ground with his staff and the dust would become gnats! Today let’s read Exodus 8:16 and grab a piece of paper and a pencil or crayon. Draw a small circle to represent dust, then give the circle wings to represent the gnat! Then have your Tiny Arrow follow the same steps to make dust then turn it into a gnat!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the ground,’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.” – Exodus 8:16 NIV

Day 16

Aaron and Moses obeyed the Lord! Aaron struck the dust and it became gnats! There were gnats on the people and the animals! Today let’s read Exodus 8:17a and ask your Tiny Arrow how the people have been affected so far. First their water turned to blood, then they were surrounded by hopping frogs, and now they are covered with flying gnats!

They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came on people and animals. – Exodus 8:17a NIV

Day 17

The people near Moses were not the only ones affected by the gnats! The whole land of Egypt was affected! All the dust in Egypt became gnats! Today let’s read Exodus 8:17b and draw tiny dots to represent gnats all over Egypt!

All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats. – Exodus 8:17b NIV

Day 18

When the water turned to blood, the Egyptian magicians did the same thing. When frogs covered the land, they did the same thing too! But when the dust became gnats, they couldn’t repeat it! Today let’s read Exodus 8:18 and play repeat with your Tiny Arrow. Have them do something, then you repeat it. Have them do a second thing and repeat it. Then have them do a third thing and tell them you cannot repeat it! Just like the magicians could do the first two things, but not the third!

But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not. – Exodus 8:18 NIV

Day 19

The magicians knew that they could not repeat what God had done. They even said it was the finger of God that did it! Even though the gnats were everywhere, Pharaoh’s heart was still hard! Today let’s read Exodus 8:18-19 and have your Tiny Arrow hold up a finger in one hand and a fist in the other. Explain that the magicians said the gnats showed the finger of God with His power, then explain their fist represents Pharaoh still having a hard heart!

Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said. – Exodus 8:18-19 NIV

Day 20

There has been three plagues so far! The first time Moses and Aaron approached Pharaoh before the first plague, they went to the Nile river to see him! Now God is sending Moses back to the river to see Pharaoh again! Today let’s read Exodus 8:20 and ask your Tiny Arrows what happened to the Nile river the first time Moses met Pharaoh there. The river turned to blood! Now ask if they can guess what will happen this time!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh as he goes to the river and say to him, – Exodus 8:20 NIV

Day 21

God has sent lots of frogs and gnats! And now he is threatening to send flies! Now just a little bit of flies, but swarms of them! Today let’s read Exodus 8:21a and color the coloring page of the gnats vs flies to see their approximate size difference!

‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. – Exodus 8:21a NIV

Day 22

God was going to send swarms of flies for the fourth plague! Flies everywhere outside, inside their houses and even on the ground! Today let’s read Exodus 8:21b and draw flies all over the coloring page!

The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies; even the ground will be covered with them. – Exodus 8:21b NIV

Day 23

God was sending flies all over Egypt! But He was making sure His people in Goshen did not get any flies! The Israelites had to deal with the first 3 plagues, but would not have to experience the fourth! He was protecting them! Today let’s read Exodus 8:22 and ask your Tiny Arrows which three plagues the Israelites had to deal with; blood, frogs and gnats! But God is going to protect them from the flies!

“‘But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land.’” – Exodus 8:22 NIV

Day 24

God wanted Pharaoh to know that the Israelites were His people. A sign that they were His people was they wouldn’t have any flies in their land! Today let’s read Exodus 8:23 and have your Tiny Arrow make a sign that says “God protects me!” and hang it somewhere in their room!

“‘I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign will occur tomorrow.’” – Exodus 8:23 NIV

Day 25

The fourth plague is here! Flies are everywhere! There were so many flies that they filled the palace and even ruined the land! Today let’s read Exodus 8:24 and talk to your Tiny Arrow about how hard it would be to have flies everywhere! Maybe they have seen a lot of flies around their food when they eat outside, or around certain places. But this is so many flies there are hundreds in houses and even affecting the outdoors! This many flies would be hard to live with!

And the Lord did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies. – Exodus 8:24 NIV

Day 26

Pharaoh did not like the flies all over! He even told Moses and Aaron to come see him and told them they could leave! They could go and sacrifice to God! Today let’s read Exodus 8:25 and have your Tiny Arrow make a fist to represent Pharaoh’s hard heart. Then have them unclench their fist and use their hands to swat imaginary flies! Then explain that Pharaoh’s hard heart became distracted by what he was dealing with! All the flies!

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.” – Exodus 8:25 NIV

Day 27

Moses was glad that Pharaoh was letting the people go, but he did not like Pharaoh’s rules. Pharaoh wanted them to sacrifice nearby, but Moses knew that the Egyptians did not like Israelite sacrifices and would stone them because of it! Today let’s read Exodus 8:26 and talk about how Pharaoh was trying to fulfill God’s promise by only giving them a little bit of it. But God wants the whole fulfillment! He does not want us to have a partial fulfillment! Then explain to your Tiny Arrow a promise God has give you, your family or someone from the Bible. What would be a partial fulfillment, and what would be a whole fulfillment! Then grab a snack for your Tiny Arrow and break it into pieces. Tell your Tiny Arrow it’s like you telling them they can have a snack but only giving them the crumb, not the whole thing!

But Moses said, “That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer the Lord our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. And if we offer sacrifices that are detestable in their eyes, will they not stone us?” – Exodus 8:26 NIV

Day 28

Moses is talking to Pharaoh about letting the Israelites leave. Pharaoh wants them to stay nearby, but Moses wants them to take a three day journey into the wilderness. Just like God said! Today let’s read Exodus 8:27 and explain the distance to your Tiny Arrows with places that are familiar to them; one place that is close by and another that is farther away. For example, it’s like Pharaoh just wants them to go to the park, but the Israelites want to go as far as their grandparents house!

“We must take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, as he commands us.” – Exodus 8:27 NIV

Day 29

Pharaoh agreed that Moses and the Israelites could go into the wilderness! Yay! Then Pharaoh asked for Moses to pray for him! Today let’s read Exodus 8:28 and ask your Tiny Arrow what Pharaoh wants Moses to pray about! The flies going away!

Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.” – Exodus 8:28 NIV

Day 30

Moses agreed to pray for God to take away the flies! But he warned Pharaoh to not take back his promise! Today let’s read Exodus 8:29 and pick a simple activity your Tiny Arrow can do, like jump up and down or to go and grab a special treat. Then explain to your Tiny Arrow that they can do the activity or have special treat. Before they do it/go get it, stop them and explain that Pharaoh was telling Moses they could go, and Moses wanted to make sure they weren’t stopped like your Tiny Arrow is being stopped now! Then let them do the activity or go get the treat!

Moses answered, “As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the Lord, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh and his officials and his people. Only let Pharaoh be sure that he does not act deceitfully again by not letting the people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.” – Exodus 8:29 NIV

Day 31

Pharaoh asked Moses to pray to make the flies go away. Moses prayed and all the flies left! They could not even find one fly! They were all gone! Today let’s read Exodus 8:30-31 grab a few toys or small objects to represents the flies and have them “fly” all around your Tiny Arrow. Then have your Tiny Arrow pray like Moses and ask God to take them away. Then hide the objects and show your Tiny Arrow that they all left! Just like the flies all left!

Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord, and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained. – Exodus 8:30-31 NIV

Day 32

Pharaoh had told Moses that if the flies go away, they could go worship God. So Moses had prayed and the flies went away! But now Pharaoh changed his mind and would not let them go! Today let’s read Exodus 8:32 and have your Tiny Arrow make a fist to represent Pharaoh’s hard heart, then like before have them loosen their grasp and pretend to swat away flies. After “swatting away” all the flies, have your Tiny Arrow make a fist again. Once Pharaoh was not distracted by the flies anymore, he went back to having a hard heart!

But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go. – Exodus 8:32 NIV

Day 33

Today let’s reread Exodus 8 and remember some of the activity’s we did!
