Genesis 49

Day 1

We ended Genesis 48, and now we are starting Genesis 49! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Genesis 49 to your Tiny Arrows!


Day 2

Jacob called for his sons to gather around him and listen to him. Today let’s read Genesis 49:1-2 and have your Tiny Arrow gather around you and tell them a story or read them a book!

Then Jacob called for his sons and said: “Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come. Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob; listen to your father Israel.” – Genesis 49:1-2 NIV


Day 3

After Jacob had his sons around him, he started talking about them! He started with Reuben, his firstborn! Today let’s read Genesis 49:3 then color and fill out the first lesson on the coloring page. Save this for the next lesson too!

“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honor, excelling in power.” – Genesis 49:3 NIV


Day 4

Jacob said Reuben was a sign of his strength and was as turbulent as the waters! Today let’s read Genesis 49:4 and finish the second lesson on the Reuben coloring page!

Day 5

Jacob first talked about Reuben, then he talked about Simeon and Levi! They are brothers and they have swords! Today let’s read Genesis 49:5 and do the first lesson on the Simeon and Levi coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

Day 6

Jacob said Simeon and Levi are brothers and they have swords! They he said he did not want their advice! Today let’s read Genesis 49:6 and work on the second lesson on the Simeon and Levi coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

Day 7

Jacob wanted to curse Simeon’s and Levi’s anger! He wanted them to be scattered! Today let’s read Genesis 49:7 and finish the third lesson on the Simeon and Levi coloring page!

“Cursed be their anger, so fierce, and their fury, so cruel! I will scatter them in Jacob and disperse them in Israel.” – Genesis 49:7 NIV


Day 8

Jacob talked about Judah next. He said his brothers would praise him and he would be victorious! Today let’s read Genesis 49:8 and do the first lesson on the Judah coloring page! Save this for the next few lessons!

“Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you.” – Genesis 49:8 NIV


Day 9

Jacob said Judah would be a lion! Today let’s read Genesis 49:9 and work on the second lesson on the Judah coloring page!

“You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?” – Genesis 49:9 NIV


Day 10

Jacob said that Judah will rule! He would even have a scepter! Today let’s read Genesis 49:10 and work on the third lesson on the Judah coloring page!

“The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.” – Genesis 49:10 NIV


Day 11

Jacob was talking about Judah and his descendants and saying they would tie up their donkey! Today let’s read Genesis 49:11 and work on the fourth lesson on the Judah coloring page!

“He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch;” – Genesis 49:11 NIV


Day 12

Jacob finished talking about Judah by saying that his clothes would be purple, like grapes! He also said that he would have dark eyes and white teeth! Today let’s read Genesis 49:11-12 and finish with the fifth lesson on the Judah coloring page!

Day 13

Jacob said that Zebulun will live by the sea! Today let’s read Genesis 49:13 and color the Zebulun coloring page!

“Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his border will extend toward Sidon.” – Genesis 49:13 NIV


Day 14

Next Jacob talked about his son Issachar! He said that he is like a donkey among sheep pens! Today let’s read Genesis 49:14 and work on the first lesson on the Issachar coloring page!

“Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down among the sheep pens.” – Genesis 49:14 NIV


Day 15

Jacob then said Issachar would love where he was going to live! Today let’s read Genesis 49:15 and finish the second lesson on the Issachar coloring page!

“When he sees how good is his resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.” – Genesis 49:15 NIV


Day 15

Jacob is now blessing Dan! He said Dan would give justice to Israel! Today let’s read Genesis 49:16 and work on the first lesson on the Dan coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

“Dan will provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of Israel. – Genesis 49:16 NIV


Day 16

Jacob then said that Dan is like a snake! Oh my! Today let’s read Genesis 49:17 and finish the second lesson on the Dan coloring page!

“Dan will be a snake by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that its rider tumbles backward.” – Genesis 49:17 NIV


Day 17

Jacob just blessed 7 of his sons! Before he blessed the rest he paused and told the Lord that he is looking for His deliverance! Today let’s read Genesis 49:18 and tell a story to your Tiny Arrow, but in the middle of the story, pause and say “I look for your deliverance, Lord.”

Day 18

Jacob continued blessing his sons, and blessed Gad! He said that Gad would be attacked, but he would get them back! Today let’s read Genesis 49:19 and work on the lesson on the Gad coloring page!

“Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels.” – Genesis 49:19 NIV


Day 19

Jacob blessed Asher next! He said he would have good food! Food so good it would be good enough for a king! Today let’s read Genesis 49:20 and work on the lesson on the Asher coloring page!

“Asher’s food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king.” – Genesis 49:20 NIV


Day 20

Jacob said that Naphtali was like a doe that has been set free! Today let’s read Genesis 49:21 and work on the lesson on the Naphtali coloring page!

Day 21

Jacob blessed Joseph! He said that Joseph was like a long fruitful vine! Today let’s read Genesis 49:22 and work on the first lesson on the Joseph coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

Day 22

Jacob said Joseph was attacked, but he still stayed strong! Today let’s read Genesis 49:23-24 and work on the second lesson on the Joseph coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

Day 23

Jacob said that Joseph was blessed because of God! Today let’s read Genesis 49:24-25 and work on the third lesson on the Joseph coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!

Day 24

Jacob said to Joseph that his blessings to him are great! Today let’s read Genesis 49:26 and work on the fourth lesson on the Joseph coloring page!

“Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.” – Genesis 49:26 NIV


Day 25

The last son Jacob blessed was Benjamin! He said that Benjamin was like a hungry wolf! Today let’s read Genesis 49:27 and work on the lesson on the Benjamin coloring page!

“Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the evening he divides the plunder.” – Genesis 49:27 NIV


Day 26

Jacob finished blessing all 12 of his sons! He blessed them and said something different for each person! Today let’s read Genesis 49:28 and give your child a blessing appropriate to them, and if they have any siblings, give them one that is appropriate for them too!

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him. – Genesis 49:28 NIV


Day 27

After Jacob blessed his sons he gave them a job to do. He told them that after he dies he wants to be brought to Hebron and buried with his family! By Jacob telling all his sons the same thing, they could all help remember what their father wanted! Today let’s read Genesis 49:29-30 and tell your Tiny Arrow and someone else (or their toy) the same thing. Then have them repeat what you said.

Then he gave them these instructions: “I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite,the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.” – Genesis 49:29-30 NIV


Day 28

Jacob told his sons he wanted to be buried where Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah and Leah were buried! He wanted to be with them! Today let’s read Genesis 49:31 and color the coloring page!

There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah. – Genesis 49:31 NIV


Day 29

Jacob is making sure his sons know that the field and cave his family are buried in belongs to them! Abraham bought it for his family! Today let’s read Genesis 49:32 and show your Tiny Arrow something that belonged to someone in your family, or talk about things that a family member might pass down to another one!

The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.” – Genesis 49:32 NIV


Day 30

Jacob blessed all his sons, told them where he wanted to be buried and then he died. Today let’s read Genesis 49:33 and ask your Tiny Arrow to tell you something they remember about Jacob!

When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people. – Genesis 49:33 NIV
