Day 1
We ended Genesis 50, and now we are starting Exodus 1! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Exodus 1 to your Tiny Arrows!
Day 2
Eleven of Jacob’s sons went with him to Egypt! They brought their families too! Today let’s read Exodus 1:1 and color the coloring page! Save this for the next lesson too!
These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: – Exodus 1:1 NIV
Day 3
All of Jacob’s sons but Joseph went to Egypt with Jacob! Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Gad and Asher all went! Today let’s read Exodus 1:2-4 and cut and glue the correct names by the correct brother on the coloring page!
Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher. – Exodus 1:2-4 NIV
Day 4
70 of Jacob’s family went to Egypt! That’s a big family! Today let’s read Exodus 1:5 and have your Tiny Arrow count to 70, then ask them if they can name anyone in Jacob’s family that went to Egypt with him!
The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was already in Egypt. – Exodus 1:5 NIV
Day 5
Joseph and his family lived in Egypt a long time, and even after all of Jacob’s sons had died, his family stayed in Egypt! Today let’s read Exodus 1:6 and tell you Tiny Arrow about someone they know, or someone in the Bible who lived in the same place after their parents or family had died.
Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, – Exodus 1:6 NIV
Day 6
Jacob’s family grew so much that the land of Egypt was full of Israelites! Today let’s read Exodus 1:7 and grab a small plate and a handful or two of small cereal or small snacks. Have your Tiny Arrow place 12 pieces on the plate. Then have them put the rest of the food on the plate and show them how it takes up all the space! The plate has so much food, just like Egypt had so many Israelites!
but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them. – Exodus 1:7 NIV
Day 7
While the Israelites were living in Egypt, there was a new king of Egypt! This king did not care what Joseph had done to save them all! Today let’s read Exodus 1:8 and pick a famous person from history for you and your Tiny Arrow to research! Have your Tiny Arrow find out their name and what they did that was important and how it affects them today!
Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. – Exodus 1:8
NIV
Day 8
The new king of Egypt did not know Joseph and thought there were too many Israelites! Today let’s read Exodus 1:9 and grab a piece of paper and two different color crayons. Have you and your Tiny Arrow start drawing circles on the paper at the same time until the paper is full! Then see who made the most circles. Whoever has the most represents the Israelites, and whoever has the least represents the Egyptians! Save this paper for the next lesson!
“Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. – Exodus 1:9 NIV
Day 9
The new king of Egypt thought that the Israelites might side with an enemy if there was a war! He didn’t want to be outnumbered and lose! Today let’s read Exodus 1:10 and have your Tiny Arrow look at the paper from the previous lesson. Then draw more circles with a different color crayon representing another nation and show your Tiny Arrow how there is more of the other nation and the Israelites together! That would make the Egyptians even more afraid!
Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” – Exodus 1:10 NIV
Day 10
The new king of Egypt decided to make the Israelites slaves! They had hard jobs and built cities! Today let’s read Exodus 1:11 and help your Tiny Arrow build a tower with blocks, legos or whatever you can find!
So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. – Exodus 1:11 NIV
Day 11
The Egyptians made the Israelites work hard! But the harder they worked, the bigger their family grew! This made the Egyptians make them work even harder! Today let’s read Exodus 1:12-13 and grab some toy characters, small objects or cereal to represent the Israelites! Place a few in front of your Tiny Arrow and have them name some jobs for each one. Then slowly add more characters in front of them and have your Tiny Arrow give them jobs too!
But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly. – Exodus 1:12-13 NIV
Day 12
The Egyptians gave the Israelites hard work! They had to make bricks and work out in the fields! Today let’s read Exodus 1:14 and let your Tiny Arrow choose between two things. The first option is to make bricks out of play-doh, clay or to draw them on paper. The second option is to have your Tiny Arrow do something outside. They could pick up toys, sticks or even pull weeds!
They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly. – Exodus 1:14
NIV
Day 13
There were two midwives who helped the Israelites mommies have their babies! One was named Shiphrah which means beauty, and the other was named Puah which means to cry out! Today let’s read Exodus 1:15 and color the coloring page!
The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah
– Exodus 1:15 NIV
Day 14
The king of Egypt wanted the midwives to do something terrible! The midwife would have been the first one to see the baby being born, and the king said if the baby was a boy he wanted them to kill it! Oh no! But if it was a girl she could live! Today let’s read Exodus 1:16 and grab two toy characters. One to represent a boy and one to represent a girl. Hide them behind your back (one in the left hand and one in the right) and have your Tiny Arrow pick one. If it is the boy character explain that the king of Egypt wanted the boy dead, and have them say death. If they choose the girl explain that the king of Egypt said the girl could live and have them say life!
“When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” – Exodus 1:16 NIV
Day 15
The midwives knew what the king wanted them to do. But the midwives were more afraid of what God would say about them killing the children that they didn’t do it! The babies were safe! Today let’s read Exodus 1:17 and grab the same toys from the previous lesson and repeat the same activity. But this time when your Tiny Arrow chooses a character, whether boy or girl, have them say life!
The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. – Exodus 1:17 NIV
Day 16
Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?” – Exodus 1:18 NIV
Day 17
The midwives did not want Pharaoh mad at them for not obeying, so they told Pharaoh that the Israelite women gave birth before they got there! So instead of a doctor or midwife helping the mom to have a baby, the mom did it all by themself! Today let’s read Exodus 1:19 and work on the second part of the coloring page from the previous lesson! Save this for the next two lessons too!
The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.” – Exodus 1:19 NIV
Day 18
God was happy that the midwives were kind to the Israelite women and even gave them families of their own! Today let’s read Exodus 1:20-21 and work on the third part of the coloring page from the previous lesson! Save this for the next lesson too!
So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. – Exodus 1:20-21 NIV
Day 19
Then Pharaoh told his people to kill all the baby boys and let all the baby girls live! Oh no! He didn’t give up on his plan, he just changed who would do it! He even told them to throw the boys into the river! Today let’s read Exodus 1:22 and finish the coloring page from the previous lesson!
Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” – Exodus 1:22 NIV
Day 20
Today let’s reread Exodus 1 and remember some of the activity’s we did!
