Day 1
We finished Exodus 8 and now we are starting Exodus 9! In preparation for the lessons to come, let’s read all of Exodus 9 to your Tiny Arrows!
Day 2
Four plagues have happened in Egypt, but Pharaoh still didn’t let God’s people go! So God sent Moses again to Pharaoh to ask to let His people go! Today let’s read Exodus 9:1 and ask your Tiny Arrow what the other plagues were (blood, frogs, gnats and flies) and if they can guess what might be next!
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” – Exodus 9:1 NIV
Day 3
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go! Then He said Pharaoh had been holding His people back! Today let’s read Exodus 9:2 and grab your Tiny Arrow around the waist with them facing outward. Then have them try to run away, but hold them back. Just like Pharaoh was holding God’s people back!
“If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,” – Exodus 9:2 NIV
Day 4
God was telling Pharaoh that if he didn’t obey, there would be consequences! There would be another plague! But this plague would affect the livestock! Today let’s read Exodus 9:3 and ask your Tiny Arrow to make sounds like a horse, donkey, cow, sheep and goat! Then ask them how it might hurt the Egyptians if the animals are hurt.
“the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field—on your horses, donkeys and camels and on your cattle, sheep and goats.” – Exodus 9:3 NIV
Day 5
The Egyptian animals would be harmed, but the Israelite animals would be ok! Today let’s read Exodus 9:4 and have your Tiny Arrow grab 4 or more toys animals (or something similar). Split the toys into 2 piles and explain one group belongs to the Egyptians and would be harmed, but the other group belongs to the Israelites and they would be ok!
“But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.’” – Exodus 9:4 NIV
Day 6
The fifth plague is coming! Tomorrow all the Egyptian livestock will be harmed! Oh my! God was warning everyone ahead of time that the fifth plague would happen the next day! Today let’s read Exodus 9:5 and talk to your Tiny Arrow about warnings! What they do and how they are helpful. Then ask them if they could have God warn them about something that is happening the next day, what would it be?
The Lord set a time and said, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.” – Exodus 9:5 NIV
Day 7
God said the 5th plague would happen the next day and it did! All the Egyptian livestock died, but all the Israelite livestock survived! Today let’s read Exodus 9:6 and use the same toys from the previous lesson that represented the animals. Separate them into two groups and lay the Egyptian toys down and let the Israelites ones stand up! Explain to your Tiny Arrow who survived and who didn’t!
And the next day the Lord did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died. – Exodus 9:6 NIV
Day 8
All the Egyptian livestock died! Pharaoh even checked! Then Pharaoh checked if all the Israelite’s livestock were ok and they were! But still his heart was hard! Today let’s read Exodus 9:7 and take the toys from the previous lesson and set them up in two rooms. The Egyptian toys in one that are laying down and the Israelite ones that are standing. Then have your Tiny Arrow go and find and check the animals to see which ones were affected by the plague!
Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go. – Exodus 9:7 NIV
Day 9
The fifth plague happened, but still Pharaoh’s heart was hard! That means there will be a sixth plague! This time Moses was suppose to take handfuls of soot from a furnace and toss it into the air in front of Pharaoh! Today let’s read Exodus 9:8 and grab a handful of flour or something similar and let your Tiny Arrow throw it into the air outside, just like Moses did!
Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh.” – Exodus 9:8 NIV
Day 10
The soot that Moses threw into the air would be like dust everywhere, and it would make all the Egyptians and their animals break out in boils! Today let’s read Exodus 9:9 and using a washable marker, or something similar, draw small dots on your Tiny Arrows hands or arms to represent the boils the Egyptians would have on them!
“It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.” – Exodus 9:9 NIV
Day 11
Moses did what God told him to do! He took soot from a furnace, threw it up in the air and boils broke out on the people and animals! Today let’s read Exodus 9:10 and color the coloring page!
So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals. – Exodus 9:10 NIV
Day 12
In the beginning Pharaoh’s magicians were able to make the water turn red and make frogs, but now they were covered in boils and would not even stand in front of Moses! Today let’s read Exodus 9:11 and using a washable marker or something similar place a few dots on your arms or hands. Have your Tiny Arrow stand in one room while you go to the next. Peek out from the doorway and explain that you cannot stand in front of them because of the dots! Then explain that the magicians were embarrassed and would not stand in front of Moses because of their boils!
The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. – Exodus 9:11 NIV
Day 13
Even though everyone in Egypt was covered in boils, Pharaoh’s heart was still hard! Just like God said! Today let’s read Exodus 9:12 and have your Tiny Arrow pretend to scratch their arms, make a fist, then scratch again!
But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses. – Exodus 9:12 NIV
Day 14
6 plagues have happened, but still Pharaoh is not letting God’s people go! God is not taking no for an answer! He told Moses to go back to Pharaoh and ask him again! Today let’s read Exodus 9:13 and have your Tiny Arrow ask you the same question 6 times. Then tell them Moses keeps asking, just like they kept asking!
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me,’” – Exodus 9:13 NIV
Day 15
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go. Then He warned him that another, even worse, plague was coming if he said no! Today let’s read Exodus 9:14 and ask your Tiny Arrow what they think the next plague will be!
or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. – Exodus 9:14 NIV
Day 16
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go or He would send another plague! Then He said He could have sent a plague to kill everyone by now, but hadn’t! Today let’s read Exodus 9:15 and ask your Tiny Arrow why they think God hadn’t killed everyone so far! He could have done it in the first plague, but He is showing the people grace and mercy and his power! Giving them a time to repent and learn about Him! Then give praises to God for His grace, mercy and power!
For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. – Exodus 9:15 NIV
Day 17
God said He could have destroyed everyone already, but He wanted to show Egypt His power! Today let’s read Exodus 9:16 and pick up your Tiny Arrow (or have them stand somewhere high) and have them shout Jesus!
“‘But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.’” – Exodus 9:16 NIV
Day 18
God had raised up Egypt to see His power, but still Egypt didn’t recognize it was God! So there was going to be another plague! A plague of hail! The worst hailstorm Egypt has ever seen! Today let’s read Exodus 9:17-18 and tell your Tiny Arrow about hail! Hail is like frozen rain drops falling from the sky! Like ice falling! Some hail is small, the size of peas, while some hail can be huge! The largest hailstone we know of was 8 inches big! Wow! Thats the size of a soccer ball! Then show them different size objects around the house to compare how large hail can get. You can use a pea, golf ball, baseball, coins, etc!
“‘You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.’” – Exodus 9:17-18 NIV
Day 19
God was going to send a huge hailstorm, but He wanted the people to survive. So He warned them to bring their animals and every person who was outside to a place of shelter! That way they would survive the storm! Today let’s read Exodus 9:19 and grab some soft toys or some small snacks/beads. Designate a place to be shelter, like under a table, and then tell your Tiny Arrow the objects represent hail and they have to go as fast as they can without getting hit to the place of shelter. Count out loud until they are protected, then throw the objects around them so they can see them coming down, but are safe!
“‘Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’” – Exodus 9:19 NIV
Day 20
God warned them to protect their animals and people. Some of them obeyed, but some of them did not! Today let’s read Exodus 9:20-21 then ask your Tiny Arrow why God wanted to protect the people and animals. So they wouldn’t get hurt in the storm!
Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field. – Exodus 9:20-21 NIV
Day 21
God told Moses to stretch out his hand towards the sky for hail to fall! Today let’s read Exodus 9:22 and grab some small objects you can throw on the ground. Have your Tiny Arrow raise their hand (holding a staff or stick if you have one) and when they do, throw the objects on the ground to represent the hail!
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.” – Exodus 9:22 NIV
Day 22
Moses did what God said and a giant hail storm came! There was thunder, lightning and hail! It was huge storm! The worst storm Egypt had seen in a long time! Today let’s read Exodus 9:23-24 and watch a video with hail falling! You can watch this one or something similar!
When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. – Exodus 9:23-24 NIV
Day 23
The hail did a lot of damage! Everything that was outside got hit! People, animals, everything growing in fields and it even stripped every tree! That’s a strong storm! Today let’s read Exodus 9:25 and go outside and look at a tree. Imagine all the bark, leaves and branches being stripped off. When this happens it weakens the tree and the tree could eventually die if it’s not treated. So not only were the fields affected, but the trees as well!
Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields—both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. – Exodus 9:25 NIV
Day 24
The hailstorm was huge! But it didn’t matter how big it was, it didn’t go to Goshen where the Israelites lived! Today let’s read Exodus 9:26 and grab the same small objects you used in precious activities and an umbrella (or something similar). Have your Tiny Arrow stand under the umbrella while you toss the objects around them. Explain that they safe and are being protected, just like the Israelites were!
The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were. – Exodus 9:26 NIV
Day 25
The storm was huge! It was so bad that Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron to come over to say he was sorry! Pharaoh was going to let the Israelites go! Today let’s read Exodus 9:28-29 and grab some small, soft objects to throw on the ground like hail. Have your Tiny Arrow make a fist then cover their head with the hands! Then explain that Pharaoh was too concerned with protecting himself that he was willing to let the people leave!
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,” he said to them. “The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don’t have to stay any longer.” – Exodus 9:27-28 NIV
Day 26
Pharaoh said sorry and said the Israelites could leave! Moses said he would pray and the storm would stop! Today let’s read Exodus 9:29-30 and ask your Tiny Arrows who else told a storm to stop and it did? Jesus!
Moses replied, “When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God.” – Exodus 9:29-30 NIV
Day 27
The crops they were growing in Egypt were flax and barley. They are harvested in April. The wheat and spelt were still growing but they had not ripened yet. Everything that was ready to harvest was destroyed! Today let’s read Exodus 9:31-32 and talk to your Tiny Arrow about the importance of crops! If the Egyptians could not harvest their flax and barely that would mean they could not use them for food! That’s like not being able to buy bread at the grocery store!
(The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.) – Exodus 9:31-32 NIV
Day 28
Pharaoh asked Moses to pray to God to make the storm stop! Moses did it! He spread out his hands and the storm stopped! Today let’s read Exodus 9:33 and find a video or audio of a thunderstorm! Play the sound, then have your Tiny Arrow lift up their hands, once they do, stop the sound!
Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land. – Exodus 9:33 NIV
Day 29
When the storm was going on Pharaoh told Moses that they could leave! But now that the storm stopped, Pharaoh’s heart became hard again and he would not let them go! Today let’s read Exodus 9:34-35 and have your Tiny Arrow make a fist. Then have them cover their head with their hands to represent the hail falling, then have them make a fist again!
When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. So Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses. – Exodus 9:34-35 NIV
Day 30
Today let’s reread Exodus 9 and remember some of the activity’s we did!
